OURSTORY
An Introduction
(PART 1)
taught by
Mwalimu K. Bomani Baruti
Every Thursday
January 15 - February 19, 2009
10am - 12 pm
Course Description: We say ourstory, instead of history, because it is a telling of the events in the life of Afrikan people – Afrikan men, women and children. We are not telling our story from the perspective of european males, which is "history" ("his-story") because that is not who we are. This six week course offers a general overview of how Afrikans have created and continue to create an Afrikan reality. In it, we will look at the Afrikan personality, classical Afrikan civilization and the societies/empires which evolved out of their decline and our enslavement, response to it and emancipation from it. This discussion closes with a summary of the period when Jim Crow and the colonization of the Motherland were in force.
