This was not an Akan king, he was Soninke, which is a subdivision of the Mande people. He was a ruler of Ancient Ghana, not contemporary Ghana, where the Akan as a distinct ethnic group is located now. I'm not sure if we have any Soninke speakers here, but they will be able to help you on this where Akan speakers will not. Also be aware that an alternate spelling of the name is Tunka Manin.
