Pdl comdemns coup attempt in guinea
SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE
PDL
Public Release Statement. 28 April 2009.
Subject: PDL CONDEMNS COUP ATTEMPT AGAINST THE CNDD GOVERNMENT OF PRESIDENT MOUSSA DADIS CAMARA IN NEIGHBOURING GUINEA !
Today (28 April 2009), the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL) whole-heartedly condemned the averted covert plan and coup attempt by undesired elements, to overthrow the Government of President Moussa Dadis Camara in neighbouring Guinea . We utterly condemn the coup-plotters and their foreign accomplices who are bent on undermining the progress, popularity and integrity of the Government of President Dadis Camara.
The Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL) reaffirms its strong support for the leadership role-model exhibited by President Dadis Camara and extends our unflinched solidarity with the CNDD Government, and to restate our commitment to defend it (CNDD) against smear attacks, be it in the corporate media or political board rooms. We congratulate the soldiers who recognized and acted on their responsibility to defend the dignity and integrity of the Guinean nation.
Today, we continue to expose the lies and misinformation poured out by the media aimed to discredit the leadership of President Dadis Camara and, more sinisterly, to prepare the ground for future coup attempts.
The most recent coup attempt has been foiled. But it will not be the last while the criminals, narcotic drug cartels, smugglers, saboteurs and political gangsters remain. We are completely in favour of the progressive path taking by the charismatic CNDD, which is the only salvation for the masses of the Guinean people.
The CNDD will not bow down to threats and coercion. The enemies of the Guinean people should not underestimate the CNDD’s unshakeable determination to maintain the integrity and stability of the State and to protect the rights and interests of the Guinean nation.
The CNDD is a symbol of hope and a fresh chance for freedom, an opportunity for the Guinean people to finally realize their country's full potential. The Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL) is heartened by initial promising steps taken by President Dadis Camara and the CNDD Government, including lifting the ban on political party activities. We also applaud President Dadis Camara’s decision to consult with representatives of various political groups on how to restore credibility to the transition. The new dialogue between the CNDD Government and civil society groups is a critical and positive precursor towards peaceful, fair and credible constitutional order. We hope these consultations with civil society groups will continue and help to tap the energy and will of the people of Guinea .
The CNDD Government has pledged to organise a peaceful and credible transition process in the shortest time practicable. Some domestic stakeholders, youths and concerned elderly citizens have called for a delay of the transition. Our hope remains that the CNDD continues to consult all sections of the Guinean society to agree on a political system that would ensure lasting peace, stability and progress for all Guineans.
By this Public Release Statement, we call on the Guinean Armed Forces and other Security agencies to desist from any actions likely to undermine the current fragile peace and stability in the country. We call on all peaceful loving people of Guinea to exercise a high sense of responsibility and moderation in their actions and utterances at this critical and testing time in their national life.
We pledge ourselves once again to defend the CNDD Government of President Dadis Camara.
In solidarity,
Signed:
Alimamy Bakarr SANKOH
