![]() Happily Natural Day (HND) is a grassroot pro-afrikan not for profit festival dedicated to breaking down the inferiority complex instilled in afrikans throughout the globe as a result of 500 plus years of slavery & colonization. Simultaneously, Happily Natural Day is dedicated to raising the political, social, spiritual and cultural consciousness of not only those in attendance, but of all afrikans throughout the globe. Happily Natural Day was founded in 2003 by UNIA-ACL member Duron Chavis aka Brother Manifest and launched successfully at the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia. Since 2003, Happily Natural Day has become one of the fastest growing grassroot pro-afrikan festivals in the state of Virginia and was held at Nubian Village Academy, & Muhammad's Mosque #24 in subsequent years. Happily Natural Day Overview Happily Natural Day is a vehicle through which afrikans regardless of religious ideology, political frame of reference, economic status, gender, or age can come together for the sole purpose of celebrating the fact that they are afrikan and proud of their ethnicity. Happily Natural Day specifically focuses on natural hair because women of afrikan descent throughout the globe have been taught to straighten their hair in order to conform to a european standard of beauty. To this phenomenon, HND responds "Black is Beautiful" and encourages all afrikans to "Love Thyself" with the overstanding that a nation can only rise as high as its women primarily and that aesthetic plays a major part in the development of a people's positive self perception. Utilizing the twin pillars of informative lectures and conscious musical expression, HND achieves it's purpose annually by fusing together the most dynamic spoken word, hip-hop and soul artists of this era with leading natural health & haircare experts and afrikan scholars in the diverse realms of black consciousness. As a result of this specific focus on brigding the gap between information and entertainment and elder and youth, annually Happily Natural Day becomes an incubator of revolutionary thought and a catalyst for social change. I went to last year's event and it was Blacktastic! However it saddened me because our people only unite during these events, when we should be united constantly! We are the cause of our own genocide and we should do so much more to save oursleves for the sake of future generations!
