Re: Curious Physical Markings
I am so new here that I too have trouble figuring out where to put posts or if they are even appropriate...
In both Ghana and Nigeria children who are born to die, (abiku in Yoruba, I can't remember the Twi word right now.), that is children who are born and die, born and die, born and die are marked, so when they come back, they will be recognized and the proper rituals to make them stay can be done. *In Osogbo Nigeria, the little toe is cut off on the right foot. *I have met three people there who were born without a little toe and are quite advanced in age because the rituals were done for them to tie them to this world. *In Ghana, I saw a 10 day old child bought to the god Asubonten who was given Asasa gyme tata (a charm for each ankle to make them stand strong on the earth) and then was pulled towards the god and tied to it. *This child is now 11 years old and quite well. *
Although, I cannot say with certainty without divination, your markings sound like hereditary birth marks...not abiku markings. However in Yoruba cultures strange birth marks are sometimes associated with children of Obatala.
Being born in a veil, caul or sac is a sign for someone who can "see" and will be talented in divination. In many cultures, it is THE sign of a diviner. *It is becoming more and more rare in the U.S. Cause these damn doctors insist on breaking a woman's water (tearing a whole in the sac) to speed up her labor. *Many children that might have been born in a caul never are because of this interference they push and tear their way through. Where if the mothers water hadn't been broken, they would have brought this sign of their destiny with them so their parents could do the proper rituals for them.
