bread in me, the wisdom that has
been encamped around me and the
endurance that encircles my feet
as I dance to the drums of mother- earth

The beat of Zulu passion forbidden
nights of Ethiopia’s river let my tears
of regret nurture the ground as I
repent in my neglect to sing my songs of victory

Your crowns of life has bestowed me
and because of the love that grows
In me your peace has found me
life is birthed once again and the
spiritual hymns of old have found a place to rest

The Blueprint of Beauty
They wish they were stronger than you
deep down inside
They wish they were as wise
as the womb-man with the majestic-ness
of the Moon in her eyes.

... Disguised behind an ever exisiting demise
where the Beauty of you is chastised
and purposely un-realized
lies hopes, wishes, and dreams
to obtain what you have
and hold that is Supreme.

In so many ways you've been told
that you're ugly and un-attractive
without any regret or remorse
But of course those that envy you
and despise you will always
try to destroy you or downplay
your mighty and magnetic force.

They scorn you but
adore your Beautiful skin
They laugh at you but know
that your light has no end
They beg for and
want to borrow your men
They try to break you
but you won't even bend
They try so hard to accomplish
your ability to love
that only you can refine and transcend

And in the end
You're the One that they copy
with mis-guided and sloppy results
You are the blueprint they mimic
but fall short because of their limits
They must realize that you're
the infinite intimate exquisite
Here before and after
it is all said and done
The Moon that equates the Sun.

The Black Mother

Where can I find love that never changes
Smiles that are true and always just the same,
Caring not how the fierce tempest rages,
Willing ever to shield my honored name?
This I find at home, only with Mother,
Who cares for me with patient tenderness;
... She from every human pain would rather
Save me, and drink the dregs of bitterness.
If on life's way I happen to flounder,
My true thoughts should be of Mother dear,
She is the rock that ne'er rifts asunder,
The cry of her child, be it far or near.
This is love wonderful beyond compare;
It is God's choicest gift to mortal man;
You, who know Mother,
in this thought must share,
For, she, of all, is Angel of your Clan.
My Mother is black, loveliest of all;
Yes, she is as pure as the new made morn;
Her song of glee is a clear rythmic call
To these arms of love to which I was born.
I shall never forget you, sweet Mother,

Essence of A Black Woman

You can see the essence of a black woman
when she walks into a room.
Her beauty is like a flower that blooms.
She doesn't need a man to be strong,
Because she remains a woman all on her own.
... She overcomes challenges
that stands in her way.
The inner strength she has
gets her through the day.
She continues to triumph
with elegance and grace.
While being a double jeopardy
because of her sex and her race.
She is a goal oriented woman
with style and confidence.
She never forgets where she comes from
and for that she is blessed.
She has faith in God and not ashamed
to acknowledge his presence in her life.
She can testify that without him
she could never endure any sacrifice.
