Default Re: Abosom ne Mmoatia Nnwom bi (Songs for Abosom and Mmoatia)

      Hi,

When a saw the title of this thread I thought I want to know more about Abosom and Mmoatia and what in means from your point of view.

Abosom has the worth Boso as we from Suriname know as Bosu. Bosu means higher being and we will use Bosu often when we talk about water deities. We also use the worth Wenu. So when we talk about Watra mama ( mother of the water) We can call her Watra Wenu, Watra Bosu, Mama Tobosi. Sometimes when we see her she will show her self as a kaiman or alligator. Legends speak of mermaids.

The male form of this deity is called Bonsu, He shows him self as a marine officer.

Mmaotia when we speak of this deity a lot of us call it takru sani what means that it is evil.
Other worths that we use for this deity are Bakru, Biakuru, Buru,Burka, Gorehi, Buku,Gbaku,Sowlui.

Does the name Mmoatia origins from the Ashanti ?

Why do we call it evil, because people use it to harm each other using black magic.
But I don't know if we are talking about the same deities. But when I compare what the books
say then i think its the same. This deity shows its self as a little boy or girl.

The problem is several deities show them self like that, The one that we call A(m)puku also know as Nsambi-Ampungu and
Adumakama maybe the same as Odomankoma.

      Ampuku Obia Talking

      A song about Adumakama

We also know Akantasi Koro Who lives termite holow. This is a song about him

The Ampuku, The Adumakama and the Akantasi Koro we al call them Obia.

      Ampuku Obia
      Adumakama Obia
      Akantasi Obia

We also know the Kromati Obia all of these deities are deities of there own and can be inherited from our (fore)parents.

I hope we can share, compare and learn from each other information.

@Getyours, to start with, you may find this: Time and Circumstance: The Days of Forty by Kwasi Bempong [Free PDF] and this An African Theology - K. Bempong helpful. Especially in reference to the modern-day obsession with so-called "witches" and "black magic". Both words Abosom and Mmoatia are from the Akan language, of which Asante Twi is a part. Your Nsambi is likely Nzambi of the Bakongo people of Congo. Adumakama is most certainly Odomankoma. Mmoatia isn't a single "diety" but rather a class of spirits that are known as dwarfs that are specialists in the healing arts and live in forests and mountainous regions. You'll find similar stories of dwarfs among other Afrikan people (erinlẹ̀ - Yoruba, Bes - Mdw Ntr). To me, these entities were/are one and the same as the Bambuti, Batwa, San, Khoi-Khoi, etc (so called pygmies and bushmen) who were either incorporated into the populations of refugee Afrikan populations or wiped out (see references to Tolloy and Tellum people amongst the Dogon.
