Free Antivirus (AV) Programs - Everyone should have an AV program for protection

Paid versions run whenever the PC is on (this uses more memory), & can catch stuff when it happens.
Free programs usually run when you start them (or schedule them), but catches stuff after the fact.

Re: Free Antivirus (AV) Programs -Everyone should have an AV program for protection
I'd recommend Eset Smart Security 3 for Vista or 4 for Windows 7. At forums where pirates and hackers lurk (not that I keep company with such fiendish fiends) I started following discussions where they were talking about what they use. I haven't had a virus since 2007-ish or whenever I first came across ESS. I even forget that those are around. Plus, I have students give me soft copies of their work on flash drives and it's so good that it cleans all the viruses that they have and I never worry for a sec.

Re: Free Antivirus (AV) Programs -Everyone should have an AV program for protection
Well, I certainly wouldn't recommend any torrent sites like Isohunt.com, ThePirateBay.com or Demonoid.me. Especially not torrents.to which will allow you to search all of the above at once. No siree bob! And I definitely wouldn't recommend Marsufix or Dasumofix to allow you to use them indefinitely for ESS 3 on Windows Vista!
