Default Capoeira's Cultural Linkages to Africa

In “Combat and the Crossing of the Kalunga,” T.J. Deschi-Obi argues that Capoeria Angola (Brazil), knocking and kicking (North America) and ladya (Martinique) are not mere residues of Central African martial arts, but they are living traditions--combative systems-- from this group of Africans that spread to others in the African diaspora. Deschi-Obi also emphasizes the spiritual importance of the circle as a Central African contribution in the Americas. It's a great article! Check it out if you can! The citation is below.

T.J. Deschi Obi, “Combat and the Crossing of the Kalunga,” L. Heywood, ed., Central Africans and Cultural Transformations in the American Diaspora (2002), 353-370.

I've read Obi-Desch's MA thesis. It was interesting. This essay looks to be promising as well. Asante for this contribution.
