Happy Earthday!
Peace Brotha,
I apologize for responding so late to your post, but with school I am not on the computer alot...anyway, I have not physically studied under Tata Fu-kiau in either system but I communicated with him very often (before he got sick) and we discussed such things i.e. spiritual systems, kikongo, conditions in the Congo area, all the time (so I guess you can say I am doing a self-study, even though Ideally I would love to have an elder to study with but I have not been able to connect with anyone else like Tata). I do have ALL of Tata Fu-kiau's books that I reference heavily, but I don't think I am an arm chair afrocentric, LOL I just haven't gone to the Continent or found the right teachers yet...I'm not initiated into Lemba (which I believe is only for men anyway, but don't quote me) and Kimpasi I have been wanting to go to the Kongo or Angola to study and practice there...Also I called myself an Nganga in training because that is what Tata said it to me one time, because I am in medical school (and he said I was becoming a specialist) but I plan to also use our traditioitnal medicine and spiritual practicies as well...But enough about me, so you are in the Vodun system, thats great! I am interested in that as well, an I actually went to Ayiti in April and saw my first Vodun ceramony (very powerfull)! If you know of people who I also could connect with to study both the Kongolese and Ayitian systems it would be greatly appreciated! You also mentioned you consult Tata Fu-kiau for Congo martial traditions? Do you mean martial arts i.e capoiera, ngolo or Biafran? Ok, i'm writting alot too, lol...Thanks for reaching out, we'll speak again soon, Peace!
