For those of you who know the beautiful words of the National Anthem of South Africa,it's sang entirely in Zulu. Take a look at this version, and you'll see why I'm beyond angry! >

Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika was written for our South Afrikan brothers and sisters;it was not to meant to be ruined like this!

National Anthem of South Africa

The National Anthem of South Africa is a hybrid of different hymns that were written over a period of 100 years. It is written in five of the official eleven languages (Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans and English).

The Xhosa and Zulu part of the National Anthem are from "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" which was composed in 1897 by Enoch Sotonga, who was a schoolteacher. "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" (the call of South Africa), was written in 1918 by C.J. Langenhoven.

From 1936 to 1957, "Die Stem" was the National Anthem alongside with "God Save the Queen". From 1957 to 1995, it was the sole National Anthem, until "Nikosi Sikelel' iAfrika", under Mandela was used as second National Anthem, until they were merged in 1997.

Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika Xhosa and Zulu
Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo,
Yizwa imithandazo yethu,
Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo.

Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso, Sesotho
O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho,
O se boloke, O se boloke setjhaba sa heso,
Setjhaba sa South Afrika - South Afrika.

from "Die Stem" Afrikaans
Uit die blou van onse hemel,
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes,
Waar die kranse antwoord gee,

Sounds the call to come together, English
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom,
In South Africa our land.
English Translation

Lord bless Africa
May her glory be lifted high
Hear our petitions
Lord bless us, your children

Lord we ask You to protect our nation
Intervene and end all conflicts
Protect us, protect our nation
Protect South Africa, South Africa

Out of the blue of our heavens
Out of the depths of our seas
Over our everlasting mountains
Where the echoing crags resound

Sounds the call to come together,
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom,
In South Africa our land.
