Windows Vista/Windows 7 Instructions:

Yoruba or Akan (Twi) font for Windows PC

1. Download the TTF file
2. Copy the file to your fonts folder. C: -> Windows -> Fonts
(C: is typically the default letter of your Operating System's hard drive)
3. Open microsoft word
4. Go to Insert then SYMBOL
5. Select YorubaSans from the dropdown menu

You'll see a full list of all of the possible characters
In Symbol you can customize your own shortcut keys to make typing easier and faster.

To type in the member classroom, type in word, then copy/cut and paste what you've typed into the member classroom.

To type on the forums in a post, copy/cut and paste what you've typed into the text box. Then highlight the text and select the YorubaSans font from the Fonts dropdown menu.

Windows XP Instructions

Choose "Save To Disk" option to download this to your own computer (preferably to desktop). Do NOT choose "Open With" option when download prompt pops up!!!

http://www.abibitumikasa.com/RECORDER.EXE

http://www.abibitumikasa.com/RECORDER.DLL

Download these three files to your desktop or any other folder where you know the location. Download the RECORDER.DLL file which is necessary for the RECORDER.EXE file to work. When the RECORDER.EXE file works, use it to open the yor_font.rec file. When this file is open, you should see instructions of how to type in Yoruba and Akan with the correct characters in microsoft word.

http://www.abibitumikasa.com/YorSans.TTF

To install this font so that dialogues and other resources show up in your browser, click to download and then save to the FONTS folder which is in the WINDOWS folder which is located in C: (your hard drive).

to get to your FONTS folder follow this path in explorer:

C: -> WINDOWS -> FONTS

Click Save when you get to the FONTS folder

From here, close out your browser and then when you reopen it, the fonts should display correctly. If not, you may need to restart your computer for the fonts to display correctly.

Installing the TTF file in your FONTS folder only allows you to read text written with YorubaSans.

To type using YorubaSans, open RECORDER.EXE (after having previously downloaded RECORDER.DLL and yor_font.rec). You will see a white screen pop up when you click on RECORDER.EXE. (Note: Do NOT attempt to click on or open RECORDER.DLL or yor_font.rec).

Once you see the white screen, click on File in the menu at the top left hand corner and from there, click on Open.

A gray "open file" box should appear and on the left hand side of it you will see yor_font.rec (provided you have already downloaded it to the same location)

Highlight yor_font.rec and then click OK (on the right hand side of the gray box).

Now in the place of the original blank white screen you should see the instructions on how to type with the font.

At this point, you can select YorSans from the font drop down menu in WORD or any word processing software you use. You can also type here at the Afrikan Liberation Institute using Yoruba or Twi or Wolof. For Yoruba or Twi you will need to highlight any text you write in the text box and then select YorubaSans from the online font drop down menu above the text box. It is not necessary highlight and select YorubaSans to type in Wolof with the necessary characters.
