Introductory Yorùbá Course Description

Course Description

Introductory Yorùbá is an eight class course where you will learn the essentials to function in a Yorùbá-speaking environment within a Yorùbá cultural context. You will learn greetings, introductions and basic conversational skills. You will learn pronunciation, sentence structure, regular verb tenses and noun classes. Cultural lessons are part of language learning and you will learn how to count and tell time, how the family and community are structured, how to address different people, proverbs and the names of important food, places, items etc... Learning activities are appropriate for all ages and will include listening, speaking, singing, reading, role-playing, writing and games. You will be expected to reinforce learning between classes by completing homework assignments and by learning and using vocabulary words. A practical assessment of acquired skills concludes the course.

Ìdánilêköô Kìíní: Pípè ìró èdè Yorùbá (Pronounciation of the sounds of Yorùbá), doubly articulated stops and syllables; sounds of the Yorùbá Language + Questions and classroom vocabulary; Subject pronouns and preliminary sentence construction
Ìdánilêköô Kejì: Ìkíni Yorùbá – Yorùbá greetings, possessive pronoun syntax
Ìdánilêköô K÷ta: Iye  – Numbers; Yorùbá arithmetic
Ìdánilêköô K÷rin: Ilë Yorùbá- Yorùbáland àti ìtônisônà - directions, Oúnj÷ – foods, object pronouns
Ìdánilêköô Karùnún: Ara ènìyàn – the human body àti àìsàn - sickness, adjectives
Ìdánilêköô K÷fà: Ìgbà àti àkókò - Time, days of the week, months, years, verb tenses
Ìdánilêköô Keje: ¿bí Yorùbá – Family members, proverbs, clothing, colors
Ìdánilêköô K÷jæ: I«ê Ìparí – Work on final projects

Reasons to Learn Yoruba at Abibitumi Kasa

Èkìíní - It increases your brain power-Having to think, comprehend, and respond in logical manner in another language causes you to stretch the limits of your mind.

Èkejì - It adds to your own personal development - Being able to learn another language gives you a deeper sense of achievement. It gives you a cursory glance of what your mind is capable of doing.

Ëk÷ta- It gives us another means to communicate without relying on yt.

Ëk÷rin- It bridges gaps amongst Africans. One is regarded with respect for taking the time to learn a mother tongue and for trying to use it.
