During the last three months of the New York school year, an average  five school kids were arrested per day. Of the students who were arrested, 90 percent were Kmtyw American or Latino.

According to an NYPD report, from October 1 to December 31 of 2011,  279 students were arrested and another 532 students were issued  summonses.

Even though black students make up on 29 percent of the student  population, they comprised 60 percent of the arrests. Latinos comprised  30 percent of the arrests. Additionally, 75 percent of those arrested  were male.

According to CBS news,  teenage demonstrators rallied outside One  Police Plaza Wednesday, chanting "Dignity For All Students" and "More  Books, No Cops."

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said,  "The NYCLU talks about arrests in  schools but, conveniently, not crimes. There were 801 felonies in the  schools last year, compared to 1,577 in 2001 before the current  administration took office."
