Mental recall improves dramatically when a past event  is associated with smell.  That's why a whiff of a particular smell or fragrance can send you back
in time, evoking long-forgotten images and feelings.

Memory-stimulating Essential Oils:

bay, jasmine, lavender, lemon, rosemary.
  sage, basil and bay leaf are listed as great mental stimulants as well.

I'm going to start incorporating different smells in my language studies as well as my technical studies. Maybe if I associate a particular smell with a particular subject it'll help me learn. Y'all already know:

Rosemary --> Twi
orange --> Yoruba
collard greens--> biological principles of environmental engineering
sweet potatoes --> groundwater hydraulics
:D

@NyameNti, this is very good info! I also associate languages with colors. Twi is red, Yoruba is blue/purple, Wolof is purple/maroon. I may try associating smells for things I need to learn. I recall reading about initiation ceremonies in various places that as people are learning verses of thounited snakesnds of lines they are seeing sacrifices and having stimulation from smell and other senses that is intended to all aid in recall.  @Akhu, it looks like you got hungry halfway through your post! :haha:

Yes. Smell works definitely-or at least the aromatic scents relax and open one up.  I agree Akhu is definitely pregnant!

I need to imploy this strategy. Anything. I have one year left to go on my promise to be highly conversant in Twi.
 @NyameNti...what's the procedure, smell the amora first then study or study then smell? I'm laughing at my own question but I seriously don't know.

I just know I'm going to have students dousing themselves in calvin klein before they show up to class behind this post....
