Salons perform pretty intimate procedures, so how safe and sanitary are they? Beauty treatments seem glamorous, but they can be gross. They should be relaxing but they can cause stress.
Kim S. is a licensed makeup artist herself, and she thought she knew what to look for in a salon. So when festering boils appeared on her calves, she didn't want to believe her twice-monthly pedicures could be the cause. Kim spent hundreds of hours and thounited snakesnds of dollars trying to get better. She tried three different antibiotics. They made her sick and made her miss work, but they didn't cure her infection.
It turns out the purple sores on Kim's legs were caused by a bacteria related to tuberculosis. The throne-like foot baths that women consider so luxurious can harbor the bacteria because they're often hard to clean.
Nail salons are number one when it comes to consumer complaints and disciplinary actions in the beauty business. Here are some other samples I've uncovered during investigations: one salon cut a customer's cuticle so deeply that it bled for days.
A judge awarded another woman $150,000 because her nail salon used a hazardous chemical on her.
Two other salons were suspended when health inspectors found rodent droppings on their nail implements.
I sent a producer undercover and she found violations at the first nail salon she visited. A technician filed her nails with a used emery board. That's a no-no. The tech also insisted on using a razor device on the producer's calluses even though they're illegal in many jurisdictions.
Hair salons harbor their share of hazards, too. The Food and Drug Administration says hair dyes and perm products are two of its top complaints. Used improperly, the chemicals can make your hair break off or fall out. They can singe your scalp and even blind you. People with chemical allergies may have trouble breathing or go into shock.
And it's no wonder. Take relaxers, for example. Many contain sodium hydroxide, the same chemical found in oven cleaner, car polish and paint remover.
Hair salons are supposed to completely immerse combs and brushes in sterilizer solution. But I found salons that had been accused of watering down that solution or skipping it altogether. Worst case scenario? You could get lice along with your haircut and blow dry...

Why don't we look after our skin and nails ourselves instead of getting other people - with their own skin and hair issues - :hello:to do for us what they're not doing that well for themselves...
Let me tell you...I was that way for a long time. I used to have "relaxers" slathered on my hair from age 7 to 24,and it wasn't because my mother hated my kinks,it was for control. Now at age 28,and three years later...i have absolutely gorgeous locks! Here's a little trivia...do you know where the word "dreadlocks" originate? You guessed it,from our oppressors. The English slavers saw how our hair became matted during the transatlantic genocide...and that how the term came into meaning. When I was 24,shortly after I freed myself from the chemicals..I was going to lock my hair anyway because I wanted to. The problem with black women today is that we focus more on the exterior,and not the interior,and that is why we are completely clueless about the struggle. Personally,I have better things to do than worry about looking good,when we're at war.

Lol hair and nails in a war...Revolution is ugly its bloody bodies falling people screaming its earth wind and fire!!! guns blastin me killing yurugu with no remorse and conscious...Hair and nails(sigh) us beautiful natural Kmtyw women can do these routines at home without sitting in some salon contributing to that billions of dollars we putting in the pot to boost kkkrackka economy...But during a war I wouldnt care what i looked like then Im trying to get free!!!!!
Chemicals and weaves are expensive,and so is the upkeep. I've had my locks for three years,and I go to an Kmtyw store to buy my products. Every now and again I go to my sistergirl's Natural salon,but mostly I do it myself. I actually enjoy doing it myself while I'm listening to Damian Marley and Dead Prez.:blackicon_wink: My mother stopped using chemicals months ago,but its tough to convince her to cut the damaged(chemicalized) part off,and let her hair be all natural. but she said she'd think about it. I will admit,my only "addiction" is buying beautiful Kmtyw adornments for my locks.:) I absolutely love cowrie shells!

My little sister however, is addicted to weaves and fake hair, she loves going out to buy her fake blond, bronze and red "hair" at the hair stores and she does her own "weaves" at home, as well as those of her friends. with weaves they are either sown into your scalp or glued,:troll: my sister prefers to "glue" the fake "hair" in because she says it is easier and it looks more REAL that way. i have tried to suggest to her to change her hairstyle to natural but she is very stubborn, very rude and thinks she knows everything, she is very hard to speak to, whenever i try to talk to her about identity and beauty, it always ends up in a heated debate or argument.

Another factor we don't think about is that we can make our own products by our own hands,and NOT by the hands of the enemy! I actually found a couple of shea butter recipes from www.fromnaturewithlove.com (http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com)
We should always buy from Kmtyw stores and/or make our products!
