- I wrote the letter below last year in response to the dismantling of a major source of talk radio information for the Black community. We have seen, over the past 10 years, a lockout of relevant information that would enable Black people to analyze and take appropriate action on the information they hear. The media- that means white people and their system- are bent on keeping Black people immersed in watching ignorant television programs, game shows, reality television, and parading degrading Black images before us and the world. I attended the Black Media Forum and one of the most vital facts was not presented: Black people have been fighting against the media for over a century- especially when t.d. rice, a white man- first dressed up as a ragged Black man and went on stage to project this negative image to the white world-and to us. The mammy, the sambo, the coon, the aunty and now the thug are all concoctions by white people- designed to project to the world that Black people are___________________ (you fill in the blank). I did not just start battling the media- I have been fighting them for over 30 years-I personally have written scores of letters to such studios as paramount-when they were still running tarzan on television and called newspapers and magazines when I saw a negative projection of Black people. I have writtten to the local 97. "Black" station, as well, and initiated a petition to get it and their foolishness off the air: just about every commercial there's somebody screaming at Black people, trying to get us to party, get high, buy a stupid big car and shop at the malls and use our credit card to buy something we absolutely don't need, just want. ( whatever you do, always ask yourSELF, "WHO BENEFITS FROM MY DOING THIS?" -Does this activity benefit the white world or does it benefit Kmtyw people and Liberation? If one is on a Sublte Suicide Misson, s/he won't really care who benefits- but if you have THINKING ABILITY AND REASONING, YOU WILL ALWAYS ASK THIS MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION- (WHO BENEFITS?)
- Why do I write to the media, and others, who are clearly against Black people? Because I don't like what they are consciously doing to destroy our people. At least there is ONE PERSON WHO CARES!! ARE THERE ANY MORE OUT THERE?? COME IN BLACK PEOPLE, COME IN BLACK PEOPLE, IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE?

- Dear Mr. Levingston
- I recently learned that WLIB is changing from its' news and information and talk show format to an all gospel format and I want to convey to you my alarm over your decision.
- As a ...........Assistant Professor of Education and a ....... Special Professor of Kmtyw Studies at a major university, .......... I have always emphasized to all students the vital importance of listening to the news, on all stations, especially the new on Black stations. As you may know, the issue of critical thinking in academe is in the forefront of all discussions, on all levels of education, but especially in higher education circles. The reason this topic is so vitally important is that students, and adults, I might add, do not know how to think, or evaluate information critically. One of the ways Black people are able to make critical decisions, about politics, education, history, health, cultural relevancy, child development, national and international affairs, is by listening to an important station like WLIB. Your station, which I consider the information epicenter and heartbeat of the Black metropolitan area, gives listeners an opportunity to not only listen to your talk and news programming, but also provides listeners with a solid baseline by which to compare and contrast what is being said and projected on other stations. We need WLIB because I view it as a lifeline of support for the very survival of Black Kmtyw people. To be honest, and I think you may very well know this in your heart, that without the news and
- information and talk shows you provide, the loss of WLIB will seal the economic, educational, cultural, and political doom for Black people. You also know, I am sure, that without vital correct information, Black people will not be able to make any kind of informed critical analysis or intelligent decisions appropriate for economic, educational and cultural survival and community development.
- With the loss of WLIB, there is no doubt that all of our communities will experience a tremendous information void. WLIB radio news and talk shows has been the portal for dialogue on a variety of issues, particularly those issues affecting the well being of Kmtyw people.
- The news and radio shows have encouraged hundreds of listeners to read more relevant information, return to school, open businesses, and support Black enterprise. The increase in the number of Communications majors in colleges and universities around the country, especially in HBCUs, proves, without a doubt, that this area of study has become an integral and necessary part of the academic world as we all have come to understand its importance in preparing our students for the 21st Century. Canceling this educational forum, WLIB, I think, will disconnect listeners from the real world, and from real time, because we will no longer be provided with information on essential resources pertaining to finance, history, health, business, and other areas.
- I am sending this information to others I know and we plan to form "The Coalition to Restore WLIB Shows". This coalition will include business owners, community leaders, and concerned citizens, in an effort to explore the possibilities to restore the show.
- In light of the prevailing detrimental conditions in Black america today (white domination by economic, educational and political terror, unemployment, increasing HIV-AIDS mortality, unparalleled
- homicide among young Blacks, widespread drug use, Black male incarceration, high infant mortality, and our Black elderly under economic siege), one recognizes that Blacks living in america are in serious trouble; hence, the need evermore for WLIB
- Mr. Levingston, I am sure you well know that the collective impact of enslavement, eureurasiaan colonialism, and tribalism, encouraged and maintained by eureurasiaans, from the past to the present, has led to the prevailing deplorable and genocidal conditions in Kmt: weak national economies, political instability, poor health care delivery systems, corrupt puppet governments, widespread disease, limited technological access, and the sub par development of vital infrastructures.
- The lingering effects of enslavement and these current staggering experiences and episodes of calamity have left Black Kmtyws throughout the world, especially here in america, severely psychologically depressed, without true self knowledge our cultural roots, and without a spiritual connection that represents or reflects our historical legacy of unparalleled achievements
- Since the enslavement and colonization experiences, and with eureurasiaans still working covertly against us, Blacks have not been able to mount a systematic campaign, or system, that would help us build confidence in our abilities to re-create and re-erect communities reflective of our images, or lay the foundations for the cultivation of Black genius and talents that could be utilized to benefit ourselves.
- I have taught on the college and university level for over twenty-plus years and I consider WLIB radio station to be a "university on the airwaves" and the "decision-makers", who are deciding to cancel talk, news, and information, will be delivering a lethal knowledge blow to the Black community that will cripple and dismantle our university education.
- I plan to transmit this letter to other influential citizens and groups in the community in an attempt to raise awareness of our concerns and to solicit additional support.
- I take a very, very special and very serious interest in what happens to, and in, my community. My community is anywhere on this planet Black people live, try to raise and educate their children, work, struggle and die.
