Does any one know why James P Allen transliterate "sS" as "zXA"? Also in his more recent publications (e.g. in "Middle Egyptian Literature: Eight Literary Works of the Middle Kingdom") he transliterates "tp" (head, top, chief) as "dp". As far as I know "t" is interchangeable with "T" but not "d" (which is interchangeable with "D"). as for "sS" and "zXA", the difference is rather radical. "sS" and "tp" come from older transliterations, I assume that Allen (and Gabor Toth, "Middle Egyptian Grammar through Literature", following Allen) has some reason for having now broken with those positions but I have not found it yet. Does anyone have anything on this?
