THE STORY
Hello Beautiful People!
My name is Marjani and when I was about 4 years old I was diagnosed with a condition called Laryngeal Papillomatosis. It causes me to develop tumors on my vocal cords over a period of time. Without treatment it can become fatal due to growths blocking my airway. It requires me to have surgeries every year to 2 years, if I am lucky. My "normal" sound is hoarse and breathy, but as my condition worsens it becomes extreme laboring or nearly impossible for me to speak and breathe normally.
The average person with this condition has to have surgery almost every 6 weeks, due to how quickly the tumors can grow. Thanks to vegan dieting and use of herbal remedies, I've been able to slow down the process. There is no known cure, but I try to remain hopeful. I would like to meet others with this disorder and hopefully bring more awareness to this condition as well.
I was hoping to collect enough funds for appointments & surgeries from the sincere and supportive Dr. Kian Karimi. When I initially moved to California I was in desperate need for surgery and we stumbled upon him after a tiring search for skilled laryngologist. My insurance unfortunately did not cover him, but luckily we were able to get the funds together. He was very informative and made me feel at ease, something I'm not very familiar with.
As I've become older its become financially trying being that I have school loans and bills to pay. The appointment will be between $350-$400 and the surgery between $4000-$4500. I would also like to gather $1000 for speech therapy sessions afterwards. I normally avoid therapy due to cost, but each surgery puts me at risk of weakening my vocal cords. I want to do everything in my power to preserve my sound as long as I can manage.
For some months I've been ready to completely let go of life for good. I'm hoping by putting myself out there for help, I will receive it. I have so many goals that I hope to accomplish in this lifetime and if I can continue buying myself more time, I'm determined to do so with help from others.
