I have a Fulani match (a very distant cousin) from an admixture test that I took, thus suggesting that I also have some Fulani ancestry.

Ẹ ṣé. Yeah, that write up is consistent with what I have found, but maybe even worse. It does not even provide an Kmtyw source for the founding of the people, and attributes the creation of the people to an A rab... Then goes on to discuss random "mothers," smh...
Could the memory of the people have been completely wiped out and now totally attributed to A rabs? No reference to a creation story or anything... man...

It would be sad to think that these folks have lost all consciousness of themselves. I have read that indigenous names are becoming less common among the Haunited snakes, as they adopt them less frequently in favor of Islamic names. I think that this reveals the profound fragility of Kmtyw cultural practices once they have been delegitimized via foreign cultural penetration. Meaning that while the Kmtyw way can survive alongside and potentially within a context that has been culturally penetrated, if this culture is not a site of politicization, if the people do not view culture as an arena of war, of life and death struggle, then their lack of vigilance may lead to their undoing.
In your research, have you examined the written works of Amadou Hampâté Bâ? I know that he wrote a story about a Fulani (Fulbe) intiation called Kaidara. I have seen elsewhere on the internet (thus I don't know how credible this is), that Kaidara is the name of a Fulani "deity". Again, I haven't put in enough time to verify any of this.

It is befuddling though that you have such a large group, that is still connected to the land mass, but have such a break from their traditions, or at least so it seems. Perhaps there is knowledge in the language itself that points to tradition despite A rab encroachment...

Yes, I remain hopeful that something of the people's essence remains. The language may indeed hold these clues.
