Greetings,
Hope all is well. I was checking my email when I came across an email sent out by this forum on the Secret of Akom. What is ironic is that I have contemplating on no longer training as an Okomfowaa. It has been a year and 8 months into my training and I don't think this line of work is cut out for me.
I don't want to give up on the training process for I have said I will fulfill it. However, I don't enjoy or I should say I no longer have that passion to continue. Plus, I am the first (bakaan) under the shrine house I belong to, which is difficult. Being a daywalker (someone not aware of the spiritual world) is so much easier than crossing over.
Lately, I've notice I am more introverted. Most of the time I enjoy being alone but that is not a good thing to do if you are training as an Okomfowaa.
I guess receiving your email is a sign of some sort.
I will continue to contemplate.

I'm troubled by this one. Is this confirmation that our traditions are invalid? First you put out demons of ghana and now this. Pouring water and lighting candles, burning sage and what have you, all for nothing? Visiting shrines...? This could shake my foundation. I though spiritual liberation was a part of Kmtyw Liberation. Part of the psychology of liberation was practicing your way of life, ATR if you will, so that you can realine your mind with BEING Kmtyw. It sure did help me, even before I went to consult any Okomfo. I know what I'll do... I go to my shrine, light a candle, burn some sage and what have you, pour some libation and ask the nananom asamanfo and the abosom what they think.

A tradition that can and must be used in the the fight for Kmtyw liberation as opposed to how many use it to keep gordon's gin and jl henke's schnapps rich using the same products for which our ancestors were traded away and with which our families are destroyed contemporarily.
I see it as a medium to get divine instruction on life strategies with which to battle white world terror domination as opposed to how it is used contemporarily oftentimes to get instruction on how to get a better job working for whitey if only we bribe the Abosom with enough eureurasiaan cigars and cigarrettes.
But that's neither here nor there in relation to this article. I think that the article is an attempt of a knee-grow who has dropped the Black soap to bend over for his new white masters.

:sphinx:Like I said, I will disregard and continue to consult with my nananom for nokore! So far they have the best track record for telling me the truth (100%) if I just listen. Everyone else has a history of lies. When one goes to court, a Judge will take into concideration ones record. So to have I examined the history of the invadors and must take it into concideration. I have also passed judgement. Everyone, besides the nananom, wants me to be their slave in some capacity, as they had enslaved my predecesors. My ancestors are the reason why I am alive today, so I believe they have an honest interest in my well being. Since my ancestors where here ( in the universe) before any other group of people, who better to ask than them concerning any issue especially God. Secret behind Akom? Akom de me! The task of being a priest is not an easy one, and not everyone is called to serve. It is best to realize it before one embraces the path. To serve the dieties, keep tabus and be available to the community constantly is not an easy path. It requires much of the person. One of the problems, (particularly on this side of the water in the Yoruba tradition, of which I am a part being an Osun priest) is that people are being initiated left and right without insuring that they are truly called to the role. In Akan tradition, this is verified partly by the diety possessing on the person and making the intention known to the family. In Yoruba tradition, it can be the same or done through divination. (This is where the unscrupulous fabricate divinatory responses in order to initiated people for vast amounts of money. Or to gain as many "god children" as possible in order to assuage a huge ego so their status in the community will increase based on the size of their following.) Any way I digress...if this individual realizes that this is not their path, (something that those who initiated them should have made sure of BEFORE initiating them), I applaud their recognition that they are not truly called to the priesthood. Their ancestors and Abosom should be the ultimate guide in making the proper decision.

Right...and additionally their own Kra will be a guide which will be a constant pull toward the fulfillment of their nkrabea in this life.

I thought over long and hard of becoming an Okomfowaa for two years prior to being initiated.
As I continue to think it over, I have come to realize its ok to be vulnerable or let my independent guard down for its not useful as an Okomfowaa. Therefore, this may be the reason why its been difficult or a challenge for me. I think this is one of many dead skins in which I have been and will continue to shed off Western culture by becoming and living as an Okomfowaa. Over the years, I have learned to wear my armor gear while functioning in Western culture while in the Akan culture it is not needed.

As a young Kmtyw american women i find my self enjoyin the knowledge that this forum provides me with
I find the post of this forum interesting, but from what I have experienced through my journey into the tradition, I have seen far more women being called into the tradition than I have seen of men. I am curios as to why this seems to be the case. Any insight is appreciated.

I read both articles and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Akom Kwaku Addae strikes me as a very witty and shrewd person, I liked how he was able to discern information from the Coastal couple that visited his shrine. In regards to his dissemination of information on the routines and tricks, it is what it is.

Ive always viewed Abosoms like Kwasi Boo as community regulators aka law enforcement. I remember one saturday afternoon my grandma came out of her bedroom yelling someone stole her cash, she threatened that if the money wasn't returned she would invoke a local god and she had an egg in her hand. Within an hr the money was returned and all was well. You would have to wonder if the people didn't believe in those gods what would the old lady's recourse be? For examples lets say they were all Christians, how would my grandma retrieve her money? Nothing in christianity would invoke that type of fear, all punishment would happen in the afterlife and presumably if you professed Christ as your savior you could probably still get into heaven depending on the Christian denomination you believe in.
Nonetheless a good Akom understands the powerful affect they have on the community, they unite us with dance and music and talk practical sense like Kwaku Addae did with the Coastal couple.
Kwaku Addae fed Rev Akesson a minor aspect of the life of an Akom, it's a bit more comprehensive than what was delineated in the article.
