The Phoenix Birthing Project, Inc. (PBP) is the only Kmtyw American maternal and child health agency in the state of Arizona. It was created in 1991 to address the alarming rate of infant mortality among black babies (see The Birthing Project story). Since the PBP started, community volunteers have come together to provide support to pregnant teens and women. The Phoenix Birthing Project has received numerous awards and recognition for its work in the community. In 1998, the PBP joined the ranks of the Valley of the Sun United Way Primary Partner agencies.
