Medase. Looking forward to discussing
Let me start the discussion.
This is a fantastic write up on Akan spirituality, the historical background of Northern divinities in Akan land clarifies a lot for me.
In Ghana the traditional divinities are portrayed as blood thirsty gods whose sole intent is to destroy lives, however the drum text of Ta Kora paints a completely different picture. Ta Kora blesses, loves, and does not hate. To me this makes a lot of sense, because if the Supreme Force is considered the "The Shining One", "The Dependable one", "Creator" etc. will Its offspring hate or destroy? No! Rather it acts as its Source and blesses, love, etc.
It appears that the chaotic environment of the late 19th and 20th century demanded bloody justice. Moreover if I was around then I would probably want instant justice gods as well. Nonetheless the change in attitude as well as other factors allowed Christianity to gain a foothold on the land.
Moreover if you compare the nature Tano to Jesus you see a similar nature. Both are the offspring of a Supreme Being, both bless, love and do not hate.
Will continue the rest of my thoughts later.
