This reminds me of the end of that movie "The Skeleton Key". The main character thought she was protecting herself when she drew a "voodoo" circle around her that kept everyone out and held her inside. But it turned out that is exactly what they wanted. They lured her into their environment by getting her to believe in voodoo and mostly their power in it.
Fear can cause people to forget their own power and put trust in the wrong things. Though I'm having trouble believing that lady sleeps on her floor every night, she is certainly scared. She is crazy to agree with being put on lockdown as a "free" citizen.
That mayor is not a very good leader. If he were he would base resolutions on the cause of the problems and not focus on what time of day it is. I geuss now their police can have an excuse for attacking people who aren't doing anything wrong.
In DC it served as a precurser for the "gentrification" that is taking over. The promises were for a better educational structure, programs to assist those in need, a tougher stance on crime (the usual). They basically knocked down or gutted a lot of subsidised housing and replaced them with townhomes and condos priced for a far different income bracket. They fired or moved a lot of teachers and placed strict standards on testing. And not to forget that the curfew forced daytime crimes rates to increase, but that wasn't talked about when they just barely mentioned the lift on the curfew in the news.
Is Helena a testing ground for the rest of the country? hmmm...
