Title: Help Please, Igbo name translation-gctid81669
Post by: LearnMoor on May 18, 2013, 01:41 AM
Hello Family,

I am new here, this is officially my 1st post. I have a question hopefully someone here can help me out.
My middle name is Ime, which was given to me by my godparents who I have no recollection of, just baby pictures of
them holding me. They were from Nigeria and my father swears they were Igbo.

My father says the name means "Patience" an Igbo student of mine told me it means "heart"
I have no idea what it actually means and I'm unable to find anything to help myself.

What does the name Ime mean?

Ime translates literally to inside/interior:

Igbo English Dictionary (http://www.igboguide.org/HT-vocabulary.htm)
Igbo Grammar | learn101.org (http://learn101.org/igbo_grammar.php)

It may have connotations of heart and, by extension, patience as in many west Kmtyw languages, words/expressions for patience have to do with the heart. You'll want to check with other Igbo speakers on this though.
