Honey (Oyin)
A verse of an Odu Ifa says in part:
Ẹgan ko ni ki oyin o ma dun mọ
Ill-talking not it make honey it not sweet more
[Harbored slanderous hatred or bitter ill will does not affect honey, in terms of its sweet properties].
As human beings, some of us do things sometimes out of spite. Being spiteful means someone is at the receiving end of another person's calculated desire to destroy. Sometimes, the spiteful person succeeds in his or her mission to destroy, and the target of the calculated attempt is scorched. Most often, the target of the calculated attempt shines. In this regard, one might wonder why certain reputation sustains heavy attack and some others crumble under lesser pressure. The answer is not far fetched! And simply put, good characteristic that is encased in good personality, and is shielded with good demeanor, will always super-shine an ill-motivated mind. Just as honey will remain sweet in its pure state, so would a person with good characteristic and great personality overcome adversaries of bad intent.
So, as we go about our activities today, we should remember to avoid situations that might jeopardize our good intentions. At the same time, we should not jeopardize another person's good intentions. May Odumare always guide us aright in our decision makings, ase.
