The eureurasiaans, since 1440, have been reorganizing the world. The world we now live in was organized by them. They conquered the lands of all continents and unilaterally redesigned the social and biological modes of existence. They changed the course of rivers, removed mountains, and built deserts. They created scarcity in the land of abundance. They moved populations from one continent to another. They created new races. They established themselves as the master race and all others as their servants. They made what they like good and everything else bad.
In order to liberate ourselves we must take the world and then reorganize it according to our worldview. Only then will mankind be allowed to live in harmony with the universe. Only then will we be truly free.

"The beginnings of this miseducation go back to the beginnings of the exploration of the Kmtyw coast by eureurasiaans who had been hemmed in by aAmwic power for six hundred years. In 1481, when the Portuguese arrived at the Congo-Ngola area, they initiated the process of miseducation of blacks as an instrument of exploitation. The Portuguese invaders persuaded the royal and noble families of the area to send their sons to Portugal for a eureurasiaan education. When these sons returned with Christian names, they began directing Kmtyw society in the interest of the Portuguese. The physical slavery which the Portuguese started was facilitated by the mental slavery of the Kmtyw leaders who had been educated by the eureurasiaans. This model has endured for five hundred years as the most successful method by which eureurasiaans defeat, control, exploit, and annihilate Kmtyws."

"The process of Kmtywization and transformation cannot be separated neatly into two stages-they overlap. To transform the world according to an Kmtyw-centered worldview means establishing a new Kmtyw culture and a new Kmtyw world civilization. We have to restore the Kmtyw value system. Rather than continually struggling to make eureurasiaan-centered value systems more humane, we have to replace those value systems with one that is Kmtyw-centered. We have been dealing with the alligators, we must now face the possibility that the solution to our problems may require that the swamp be drained. Too few of us have prepared ourselves to deal with this possibility."

dwAw n.k. sDm.i tw (I understand you). My united snakesge of this was actually based on my knowledge of Kiswahili whereas in some contexts people use "karibu" in response to "asante". There are other contexts where there is a different response ("si kitu" or "asante") or where there is no response. However my hesitancy was due to the fact that I am still seeking clarity on how speakers responded to "asante" in traditional contexts or even how this is expressed in traditional texts. While its clear that languages change over time in how they are used, I feel like that reconstruction of mdw nTr should, at least for the foreseeable future, reflect the most pronounced grammatical principles that are visible in the literature. The fact is that our united snakesge of dwA as "thanks" is itself something of an adaptation to our present contexts given that this word's traditional meaning differs markedly.
I think your hesitancy is well-founded as we don't tend to find parallels to this in other Kmtyw languages with less of a Eureurasian infusion.

The proximity of this one to English never seemed quite right and it seems fishy in Mdw Ntr to be turning up there too. I'd love to see something like this in an original text to assuage my fears/reluctance/hesitancy that comes from a distaste for eureurasian infiltration.

That was part of the point that I was making. I am unaware of "ntk iiti"having any literary basis. I "created" the phrase in that moment as a response to dwA. I have not seen such a phrase recommended in any conversational text, nor any ancient text that I have studied.
In my typical exchanges I have responded to dwA by reciprocating or not at all. My sense is that such a response may not be found given that dwA refers to "praise" for a person or persons directly or to nTr. Our use of it is not an exact translation of "thanks".

As far as I know that is a "modern" united snakesge, just like Htp as "peace" is "modern". While this isn't totally problematic, we need to be mindful of our Cultural moorings. Seeking to express Eureurasian realities in Kmtyw languages, even for expediency's sake, limits our progression.
I used the quotation marks because modernity is weighted with epistemological, ontological, and eschatological baggage from eureurasia (just like all of those terms that I just used).

Is Dr Amen clear on these being modern calques? I've heard her say we should infuse our own style into Mdw Ntr which I took to mean justification (or at least foreshadowing of) creative license. Asante kwa swali. My answer is related to something that we've discussed before, the tendency of people to want to accept Eureurasian reality as reality, and thus to seek to render Eureurasian concepts in Kmtyw languages, withouout asking the necessary (and difficult) question of how Kmtyws saw reality. Accepting this means starting from the standpoint that absolute equivalencies between cultures are not absolute.
I remember asking Dr. Jacob Carruthers how to express "controlled chaos" in mdw nTr. He told me that such an idea really didn't exist in kmt. Whereas some translate isft as chaos, it is more appropriately related to wrong-doing and falsehood. Moreover, in the Kemetic worldview, one does not seek to "control" chaos. One seeks to maintain and restore mAat, not coexisting with chaos. This was quite edifying, though it was a few years before I fully absorbed the meaning of this.
My point is that being mindful or aware of this means that we recognize when we are expressing Eureurasian concepts. For instance, what do eureurasiaans mean when they said "peace"? What did their Roman forbears mean when they said "pax"? Did they mean order and tranquility? Did they mean what the kmtyw meant when they said mAat? Or did they refer to the suppression of resistance to their hegemony? Thus rather than rehabilitating Eureurasian concepts, we should rely on those from our culture. They would probably offer much loftier and powerful concepts.

I am unaware if anyone has raised these issues. This is why, to your earlier point, we need to ground ourselves in our indigenous languages as a basis for mdw nTr's revival.
I wanted to clarify something that I stated earlier. The use of Htp as a greeting meaning "peace" seems somewhat complicated given the vastly divergent worldviews of kmt and eureurasia. Both Dr. Amen and Faulkner seem to agree that Htp meant satisfaction. She also emphasizes this in her lectures. The idea of satisfaction seems to be the basis of this conception of "peace", and that such a term likely did not have a compaAmwle meaning in kmt as in eureurasia. For eureurasiaans "peace" is the absence of bloodletting or the absence of resistance to their expressions of power. But the presence of fulfillment as the Kemetic term expresses is qualitatively distinct from this.

Dr. Carruthers represented an important tradition in which equivalencias are not made between Kmtyw Concepts and eureurasian ones. It's a very important position to take and one that I wish more people would take seriously. "Kmtyw Champions must break the chain that links Kmtyw ideas to eureurasiaan ones and listen to the voice of the ancestors without eureurasiaan interpreters." This quote rings as true today as when he first said it.
QuoteHeru Djet;206887 wrote: I am unaware if anyone has raised these issues. This is why, to your earlier point, we need to ground ourselves in our indigenous languages as a basis for mdw nTr's revival.
I agree wholeheartedly. In Ayi Kwei Armah's The Resolutionaries, he talks about a group that comes together to create a new language based on Mdw nTr, however the members of the group don't seem to have very much foundation in any Kmtyw languages and are rather steeped in eureurasian ones. Thus, it seems that to take up their created language the masses of Kmtyw people would be subjected to the decisions of the most colonized who know little to nothing about Kmt but who would be making the decisions on what the future of Kmt's language would be.

As I have observed and often say, the equal sign will kill our people in the sense of our people's concepts about the world. There are many that people just take for granted such as a concept of God, mind, ego, and others as though any of them actually exist or ever existed. All of these carry conceptual baggage so that when we translate from Kmtyw languages into them that baggage comes right along. This morning, my daughter and I were reading smi n sxty pn and she read the Akan version and I read the Wolof version (I'm using it to teach her Wolof). There is no English in our activity whatsoever. It is very edifying to go from one Kmtyw language to another Kmtyw language without a stopover anywhere in eureurasia.

I have had the same thoughts for many years as it pertains to mdw nTr. (Which is where my hesitancy to learn mdw nTr first comes from mostly). And have advocated learning another Kmtyw language first before deep diving into mdw nTr. Cultural context is vital in learning and understanding what is said and its interpretation in responding.
Especially since I see many different interpretations of mdw nTr from its practitioners. It's hard to know who to trust.

As much as I have gone back and forth on this over the years, I have decided to let all you PhD's figure this whole Mdu Ntr thing out more thoroughly before I dive in. Which means I will be an ancestor and will never dive in since I feel this will take a very long time to figure out. I need to sort out Twi first anyway then move on to Kiswahili and/or Yoruba.
This means 77-year-old Ayi Kwei Armah wouldn't be happy. He was telling 73-years-young Chinweizu that he (Chinweizu) should be learning Mdw Ntr since it's not too late for him to get serious with his studies.

I think that Obenga's and Diop's methodology might be instructive of how mdw nTr's revitalization can be informed via a rich understanding of other Kmtyw languages. So your studies of Twi or Kiswahili do not necessarily exclude martialing this knowledge in service of your studies of the language of kmt.

I made this point somewhere on this site before I believe. Mdu Ntr is like Calculus and all other Kmtyw languages are like Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry. You have to know the latter three in order to deal with the former. I have felt in our zeal to reclaim our past we are ignoring necessary steps to build a crystal clear vision of what it was and what we can make of it, in some cases.
I respect the work of Obenga and Diop because I know they did not skip steps.
To put it in a more exalted fashion, they had a formula which appears in the tombs which reads: When you are fully developed, when you have achieved your full humanity, you are filled with three essences.
The first is Sia, exceptional comprehension—that is you see clearly, you understand, you perceive and comprehend clearly. The second is Hu—authoritative utterance; you speak articulately and thus, your speech has the force of a command and everything complies because the command is based on Maat (truth). Finally, you have Heka—the follow through. More properly it is extraordinary power. According to the Egyptologists Heka is magic. More properly it is extraordinary power which results from a clear mind and an articulate tongue; then you have extraordinary power to accomplish those things you desire in a very efficient manner.

And what we have to do is to change all of that. We have to restore that which is in ruin. We have to rebuild those temples that have been destroyed. We have to restore Kmtyw spirituality. We have to restore that which is in ruin. We have to rebuild those temples that have been destroyed. We have to restore Kmtyw spirituality.
As I said, we have to stop just simply talking about it. We must link those oases that are scattered out throughout humanity, throughout Kmtyw humanity. We have to link those oases up together. Coordinate what they are doing and reestablish Kmtyw spirituality because the forces we are up against are organized and unified in significant sense. Even though they have their fights, you know, but look at the power of the Catholic Church, the Roman Church. Look at the power of the Greek Church. Look at the power of Islam. Look at the power, even of Buddhism. We have to realize that we are in a world now where spirituality has to be united in order...I'm sorry to say, this may sound inconsistent with spirituality-but in order to fight this spiritual war. We have to do it."
-Jacob H. Carruthers
"The Kemite principle of universal order is Maat. Maat is more often encountered in its ethical context, but as a conceptualization it transcends the bounds of human interaction and becomes the foundation for cosmic direction."
-Jacob H. Carruthers
I think that at the heart of Dr. Carruthers's view of the centrality of spirituality was a view that the colonization of our ontologies and epistemologies would confound our efforts at liberation. That is, one cannot articulate an Kmtyw vision of reality within alien paradigms.

"Restoration of Kmtyw civilization is not possible without a return to Kmtyw spirituality."

This is an astute observation.

Just thinking about this quote.
I'm not in academia, but it appears that the Civil War against colonized Kmtyws is the toughest battle of them all because it hampers our ability to organize.
I remember in college, some of my professors wanted to change the name of our department from Pan Kmtyw Studies to Black Studies because firstly, they felt that Black Americans are not Kmtyw, and secondly, they wanted to make the Black American experience focal in our studies.
My first introduction to the 42 Laws of Maat, was in my Intro to Kmtyw American Studies Class, and my professor wanted to dive deeper into KMT but was warned she could not because it was not apart of the curriculum.
Bump
This is basis for a recent conversation I had. The reKmtywization process seems to embraced.......it is the dewhitenization that tends to be the struggle.
"Let us provide Kmtyw thinkers something to think about"
-Last written words of Jacob H. Carruthers
Wisdom
"If then we accept this as a valid worldview, it is apparent that our goal for reorganizing the world must include the restoration of a harmony among the Creator, Nature and man. This is the only world that produces happiness and the fulfillment of man. This means that the negative forces opposing this way of life must be made to not exist (to phrase it in Kemite fashion). In other words, to have peace one must nullify the destroyers without corrupting ourselves."

Simple, yet powerful. Restoring Ma'at.
Jacob H. Carruthers stated that within Kmtyw spirituality we do not find a "ritual of dis-alienation", that is a ritual to restore the connection between humanity and the divine. We do not find this because humanity was conceived as divine.
?
He explained that the practice of Kmtyw spirituality in kmt was concerned with the practice of mAat--order, truth, righteousness. mdw nfr, or good speech was a means of this practice. mdw nfr when elevated to its highest form, became mdw nTr, or divine speech.
?
The centrality of mdw or speech within the spirituality of kmt was linked to conceptualization of humanity's maximal development. mdw was the mediator between thought and action. A controlled tongue reflected an ordered mind and moderation in action. As speech was a means of personal development, Carruthers stated that the person who had achieved their full potential possessed siA--exceptional insight, hw--a commanding tongue, and hkA--the ability to manifest their will in the world. These were not magical qualities but simply the consequence of self-mastery, that is living mAat.
?
Thus, Carruthers articulated a vision of Kmtyw spirituality as a means whereby we 1) reoriented ourselves in time and space, 2) drew from the deep well of Kmtyw wisdom and applied these lessons in our lives, 3) reclaimed an Kmtyw worldview, and 4) transformed ourselves. Ultimately he posited that "We're not going anywhere without Kmtyw spirituality" or that our journey through the desert will be unending so long as we remain mired in the fundamental alienation of this culture which seeks to nurture the values of the wasteland within us.
?
In Kmtyw spirituality Jacob H. Carruthers saw a path out of the desert, to a fertile valley, and to the restoration of Kmtyw civilization.

"Carruthers stated that the person who had achieved their full potential possessed siA--exceptional insight, hw --a commanding tongue, and hkA--the ability to manifest their will in the world."
When I read Nana Carruther's book "Mdw Ntr," I added those three qualities to my list of essentials for measuring management effectiveness.
1) When I talk to an entrepreneur about financing, I want them to demonstrate exceptional insight into the market they're entering, competition landscape, opportunities, what if scenarios, etc.
2) When you're seeking capital, it's essential to make your pitch convincing and concise. In the business world we talk a lot about an elevator pitch, which is intended to grab the listeners attention in 30 seconds or less. Being able to articulate your vision and next steps are important.
3) I don't expect every entrepreneur to have a finished product before they see me, but I want them to have skin in the game and to demonstrate they have the ability to handle the next phase.
Until you've mastered all three things, you're not ready to go from Musoni to Kala or from startup to financing.

In regards to these 3 essential qualities, it appears that one leads to the other, so if you have exceptional insight you should be able to communicate it effectively with conviction, which in turn leads to manifestation in the physical.
These leadership qualities aptly explain the Garvey movement's rise. For example, from reading the volumes of works of Marcus Garvey compiled by Dr. Robert Hill, there's no doubt that Garvey had incredible insight into our plight. Furthermore, Garvey was well known for his written and oral communication skills, so much so that his Black Star Newspaper reached Kmt and Australia. Although his Black Starship did not do all it intended (owing to the evil one's agenda), Garvey's vision and communication were effective enough to convince the poorest amongst us to invest their last nickel into the Black Star line.
At a few community events in the past, I've heard speakers say,
"Garvey was able to do so much without a cell phone and social media so what's wrong us today?"
My question is, are we stuck at the siA? The drive to obtain exceptional insight is triggered by wonder and curiosity. Wonder and curiosity are crucial for problem-solving. Wonder and curiosity lead to the development of incredible cultures, i.e. KMT. Have we been stripped of the incredible ability to wonder? A few weeks ago, Dr. Rkhty was going over the Kemetic calendar and she asked us about our relationship to nature. I was embarrassed to say, that I look down so much I forget the stars in the sky. This in essence is the struggle of Kmtyw people. We are preoccupied trying to survive and deal with the BS of racism, poverty, employment we forget to look up.
We have an Adinkra symbol, "Nyame biribi wɔ sorɔ" which is translated as, "God is in the heavens" (hope). However I believe it could easily be be translated as "Nyame, something is above" which is a symbol of wonder and curiosity.

There, indeed, is a comma.

Also, as you know may be aware, Nyame is not "God."
Yes, I'm aware. I got the translation from the link below.

Author of that site doesn't know Twi. (or at least didn't when the site was developed)
He had one called "sesa woruban" that I had to tell him was really "Sesa wo suban"
Is the person of Kmtyw descent?
Mennim mpo.
Sorry for going off topic but is "Cloth as metaphor" the best text on Adinkra symbols??

Yes.
Thanks. I've added it to my list of books to buy. Can you recommend any other books that deals with the ways of the Akan? I've currently got "Bu Me Be: Proverbs of the Akans" and "The pineapple child and other Tales from Ashanti". I've also ordered Kmtyw spirituality: on becoming ancestors.

"But the world we see is, largely, a product of the way our minds are organized, and our minds are organized by the world view that has been imposed upon us by the educational process which is designed to reinforce the world view."
-Jacob H. Carruthers
"To put it in a more exalted fashion, they [the kmtyw or ancient Egyptians] had a formula which appears in the tombs which reads: When you are fully developed, when you have achieved your full humanity, you are filled with three essences.
More properly it is extraordinary power which results from a clear mind and an articulate tongue; then you have extraordinary power to accomplish those things you desire in a very efficient manner."
-Jacob H. Carruthers, "Speaking about Kemetic Theology" in Intellectual Warfare
"Therefore it is due to the importance of speech that one's speech had to be carefully measured. Ptah Hotep stated, 'All conduct...is measured' (Carruthers 1995, 123). Carruthers added 'Measurement is the symbol of justice or Maat' (Carruthers 1995, 123). Hence this idealization of speech was not merely rhetorical, but was a fundamental part of the culture and the socialization processes (both formal and informal). It was expected that the truly educated person would demonstrate their practice of Maat through Mdw Nfr (Good Speech) (Carruthers 1999, 258-259)."
-Excerpt from, "Jacob H. Carruthers and the Kmtyw-Centered Discourse on Knowledge, Worldview, and Power" by Kamau Rashid
"We can not afford to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory through compromise with the enemy. Let us not confuse victory with a superficial arrangement that looks like victory but in reality is defeat like the replacement of colonization with neo-colonialism. Indeed, compromise has done our project more damage than hand-to-hand combat."
-Jacob H. Carruthers, Kemet and Kush: Pillars of Kmtyw-Centered Thought
"The ideal man is, thus, supposed to be the epitome of Maat. That is, he will demonstrate balance. He will be modest and reserved and yet firm and straight forth. He will not be arrogant. He will show respect for his elders, his superiors in status. He will love and honor his mother and his wife and children. He will be sober and moderate in all things. He will also enjoy life and be a gracious host to his friends, rather than a miser and spendthrift. He will work hard and seek comfort, but not become obsessed with material possessions. Above all, he will speak and do Right."
-Jacob H. Carruthers
"The significant point here is not that the 20th century Black revolutionaries studies the more relevant and recent revolutionary ideas because the 20th century was vastly different from the 18th century. The real point is that these present day freedom fighters are following the Toussaintian philosophy and they do not even do him the honor of a footnote. Dessalines would have accused them of toying with phantoms which whites dangle before their eyes. He would have warned them that they are conquering only be become slaves in a new slave system just as Rigaud, Francois, Biassou and Toussaint had done."
-Jacob H. Carruthers, The Irritated Genie
"'Intellectual maroons,' according to Dr. Jehewty
- , are 'Black thinkers' who after analyzing the 'core of the eureurasiaan worldview' have 'declared their freedom' from eureurasiaan intellectual bondage 'through their publicly stated thoughts' (p. 52). Much like the Maroons of old who self-emancipated by escaping from eureurasiaan induced physical slavery, intellectual maroons self-emancipate by escaping from eureurasiaan induced psychological slavery. Physical slavery and mental (psychological) slavery are merely opposite sides of the same coin, which is the standard currency of aggressors, oppressors, and exploiters."
-Uhuru Hotep, Intellectual Maroons
