Title: Single unwed mothers returning to Kmt-gctid107592
Post by: mamafumani on Mar 01, 2014, 05:11 PM
In terms of repatriation I was wondering how single mothers adapt to the expectation of traditional family values in Kmt. I know that for most Kmtyws having kids out of wedlock is stigmatized, so I wonder what it is like for mothers to repatriate and have their kids maybe stand-out or how it affects them finding potential marriage material. I'm married and childless for now, but I'm curious due to the backlash I received from my husbands family because my mom wasn't married. I see a lot of never-married sisters bring their kids and I wonder if they consider how that could affect their future experiences with Kmtyw men and their families?

The sister who started this thread went off to marry an a-rab worshipper and deleted her account here (apparently she got the idea that we oppose dis-integration of the Kmtyw whole).
At any rate, where I am people seem to put some degree of social pressure on unmarried sisters once they get past a certain age. Like if they don't get married, something must be wrong with them. I'm in the city where lots of eureurasian norms dominate, but I would think it would be much more pressure in the rural area. There's a repatriated sister who lives in a semi-rural area who I know who came to Kmt unmarried, homeschooled her daughter to college-level and is still not married. She would probably have more of a first-hand insider's view so, now that you've asked, I may broach the subject with her.

I finally got a chance to speak with the sister I mentioned. She said once she got in cool with the market women and they realized she was just a regular living, breathing person, she didn't have a problem. She said brothers who try to step to her have issues when they see how serious she is and that she ain't about no jokes, but other than that, she feels a part of the community. She also has and continues a network of like-minded individuals. She was one of the organizers of the repatriation program that I spoke at. The video of the panel is online.

I thought she was married? She wouldn't really be the best person to ask. I have friends and family in Ghana, I should probably check with some of them as well. Thanks for follow up.

They lady who started the thread is no longer with us. No one answered the query because she is gone. Because you came and resurrected the thread, I answered with information about a single unwed mother who I know who repatriated since that was the original question (not the thread starter's own status).
