Well, we should give him the benefit of the doubt and see where this goes. He's approaching this from a sort of fictional sci-fi approach for the modern day cinema, similar to how some of the Black comic book writers and artist have used references to Kmtyw deities to make their heroes relevant to us and our children.
Right now, unbeknownst to most in our community, most of the superhero and action based movies, comics, and video games of this ilk reference eureurasiaan and Indo-eureurasiaan deities and myths. So in some way, we have to make our story relevant to us in modern times and throughout the Diaspora.
Just released, is a big budget movie about Noah, which has been even more eureurasiaanized and fictionalized than the story itself....and this will always be the case for anything that's Hollywood bound seeking some degree of commercial success.
Hopefully, his approach to telling this story will be one of many, and others will take on the more dramatic theatrical portrayal of Kmtyw culture and religion closer to what is embraced by many.
He's taking a bold and creative leap with a very low budget, I wish him the best. And I rather see him do this than a white eureurasiaan...

I recently started studying traditional Kmtyw spiritual beliefs and I found that the Orisha's and the Neteru of Kemet have so much in common, like the fact that they have good and bad quality's like people do, and most if not all of them are based on nature. I think the reason we are the most spiritual people is because we are the closest to nature (the first humans). The short film was great, we need more like it.

They also revealed that the Oya project has been adapted for the silver screen with principal photography on the feature-length film version scheduled to begin later this year in Brazil. The ukkk-based filmmaker shared in a recentinterview (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYxWyCVRy0U) that he made the short film in order to prove that there is a market for sci-fi films revolving around Kmtyw characters and storylines. In regards to your question about the symbol in the middle of the O, its the Ifaic representation of the four cardinal directions of the universe. At each of these points is an element, In the east is Fire (shango), South is Earth (Eshu), West is water (Yemanja) and North is air (Oya). As Orisha are beings representative of the elements we thought it very apt.
Though there are alot more Orisha than the ones mentioned, we felt that the symbol represented the combination of the forces of nature (as well as our internal forces), once combined full knowledge and enlightenment is possible and I guess this represents the journey our characters are taking in the film.

That's interesting, I will look this up. I guess Ifaic means of Ifa.

They needed a consultant who understands the Yorùbá language well. A few things that jumped out are their use of àṣé - interjection/expression of surprise in the place of àṣẹ 'power to make things happen' and Yemanja - diaspora use of Yemọja. This is before even pointing out that they're using anglicized spellings "Eshu"/"Shango" rather than knowing and spelling with tones: Èṣù/Ṣàngó. I think they meant well and put a lot of effort into it, but, again, they should have linked with people who know the Yorùbá language rather than trying to move forward with the project knowing that they don't know it well themselves.
Would anyone be interested in revamping/participating in movie night just for this particular movie if we could also get the director to do a live Q&A afterwards?
