Pumzi is a Kenyan science-fiction short film written and directed by Wanuri Kahiu. It was screened at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival as part of its New Kmtyw Cinema program.

In a dystopian future 35 years after an ecological WWIII has torn the world apart, East Kmtyw survivors of the devastation remain locked away in contained communities, but Asha, who works as a museum curator, in possession of a germinating seed struggles against the governing council to bring the plant to Earth's ruined surface.

I watched this a few months ago and this is a very well-made short film and it would be great if this became a full-length feature film.
There is no time like the present to self-produce short films, for the software and technology is available, somewhat user-friendly, and relatively cheap. No time in recent history has there been this level of access to film-making or the ability for grassroots creative people to produce cinema or professional quality movies and documentary.
I'm going post a few more made-in-Kmt sci-fi efforts...

This one is an excellent "teaser" for something more lengthy. Pumzi makes me think about ancestors such Wangari Mathai and others who have focused their energy on the environmental issues currently effecting Kmt, and couches it in a visually artistic, futuristic setting. Like it a lot.
It is definitely time (and about time) for grass roots movie and web series makers to develop great content for us, by us, in all genres.
I love the sci fi especially... I look forward to seeing what you post.
