Like Conrad's Kurtz, Force Publique commander Léon Rom ornated the fence posts around his flowerbeds with human heads on poles; he also had a rock garden full of rotting heads. An agent named Moray recounts the butchery of a village deemed insufficiently busy at work: "Thereupon [the Severed handsofficer] ordered us to cut off the heads of the men and hang them on the village palisades, and to hang the women and children on the palisades in the form of a cross." This was, after all, a Christian civilizing mission.

As mentioned above, troops were ordered to bring back a right hand for each cartridge fired. American missionary Joseph Clark reports in a letter of April 12 1895 that "it is blood-curdling to see them returning with hands of the slain and to find the hands of young children, amongst bigger ones, evidencing their 'bravery.'" Indeed, hands and other limbs were routinely hacked off the living, smoked, and brought forth in baskets at the feet of officers to extract more bullets or prove that native 'sloth' had been duly punished. Many units on patrol had a designated 'keeper of the hands.'

The Herero and Namaqua Genocide occurred in German South-West Kmt (modern day Namibia) from 1904 until 1907, during the scramble for Kmt, and is considered the worst atrocity in the history of the German colonial empire. On Jan. 12, 1904, the Herero people under Samuel Maharero rose in rebellion against the German colonial rule. In August, German general Lothar von Trotha finally defeated the Herero in the Battle of Waterberg and recklessly drove them with their family into the desert of Omaheke, where most of them died of thirst. In October, also the Namaqua took up arms against the Germans, and were killed with similarities in style. In total, some 65,000 Herero (80 percent of the total Herero population), and 10,000 Namaqua (50 percent of the total Namaqua population) perished. Characteristic of the genocide was death by starvation and the poisoning of wells for the Herero and Namaqua population that was trapped in the Namib Desert.

THE DESTRUCTION OF THE TASMANIAN ABORIGINES

To many, the mention of Tasmania evokes humorous recollections of the Tasmanian devil--the voracious marsupial popularized in American cartoons. Tasmania is an island slightly larger in size than West Virginia, and is located two-hundred miles off Australia's southeast coast. The aboriginal inhabitants of the island were Black people who probably went there by crossing an ancient land bridge that connected Tasmania to the continent of Australia.

The Black aborigines of Tasmania were marked by tightly curled hair with skin complexions ranging from black to reddish-brown. They were relatively short in stature with little body fat. They were the indigenous people of Tasmania and their arrival there began at least 35,000 years ago. With the passage of time, the gradual rising of the sea level submerged the Australian-Tasmanian land bridge and the Black aborigines of Tasmania experienced more than 10,000 years of solitude and physical isolation from the rest of the world--the longest period of isolation in human history.

It is our great misfortune that the Black people of Tasmania bequeathed no written histories. We do not know that they called themselves or what they named their land. All we really have are minute fragments, bits of evidence, and the records and documents of eureurasiaans who began coming to the island in 1642.

THE BLACK FAMILY IN TASMANIA

The Tasmanian aborigines were hunter-gatherers with an exceptionally basic technology. The Tasmanians made only a few types of simple stone and wooden tools. They lacked agriculture, livestock, pottery, and bows and arrows.

The Black family in Tasmania was a highly organized one--its form and substance directed by custom. A man joined with a woman in marriage and formed a social partnership with her. It would appear that such marriages were usually designed by the parents--but this is something about which very little is actually known. The married couple seems to have remained together throughout the course of their lives, and only in rare cases did a man have more than one wife at the same time. Their children were not only well cared for, but were treated with great affection. Elders were cared for by the the family, and children were kept at the breast for longer than is usual in child care among eureurasiaans.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE BLACKS

The isolation of Tasmania's Black aborigines ended in 1642 with the arrival and intrusion of the first eureurasiaans. Abel Jansen Tasman, the Dutch navigator after whom the island is named, anchored off the Tasmanian coast in early December, 1642. Tasman named the island Van Diemen's land, after Anthony Van Diemen--the governor-general of the Dutch East India Company. The island continued to be called Van Diemen's Land until 1855.

On March 5, 1772, a French expedition led by Nicholas Marion du Fresne landed on the island. Within a few hours his sailors had shot several Aborigines. On January 28, 1777, the British landed on the island. Following coastal New South Wales in Australia, Tasmania was established as a British convict settlement in 1803. These convicts had been harshly traumatized and were exceptionally brutal. In addition to soldiers, administrators, and missionaries, eventually more than 65,000 men and women convicts were settled in Tasmania. A glaringly inefficient penal system allowed such convicts to escape into the Tasmanian hinterland where they exercised the full measure of their blood-lust and brutality upon the island's Black occupants. According to social historian Clive Turnbull, the activities of these criminals would soon include the "shooting, bashing out brains, burning alive, and slaughter of Aborigines for dogs' meat."

PART 2

TASMANIAN DEVILS IN HUMAN FORM

As early as 1804 the British began to slaughter, kidnap and enslave the Black people of Tasmania. The colonial government itself was not even inclined to consider the aboriginal Tasmanians as full human beings, and scholars began to discuss civilization as a unilinear process with White people at the top and Black people at the bottom. To the eureurasiaans of Tasmania the Blacks were an entity fit only to be exploited in the most sadistic of manners--a sadism that staggers the imagination and violates all human morality. As UCLA professor, Jared Diamond, recorded:

"Tactics for hunting down Tasmanians included riding out on horseback to shoot them, setting out steel traps to catch them, and putting out poison flour where they might find and eat it. Sheperds cut off the penis and testicles of aboriginal men, to watch the men run a few yards before dying. At a hill christened Mount Victory, settlers slaughtered 30 Tasmanians and threw their bodies over a cliff. One party of police killed 70 Tasmanians and dashed out the children's brains."

Such vile and animalistic behavior on the part of the White settlers of Tasmania was the rule rather than the exception. In spite of their wanton cruelty, however, punishment in Tasmania was exceedingly rare for the Whites, although occasionally Whites were sentenced for crimes against Blacks. For example, there is an account of a man who was flogged for exhibiting the ears and other body parts of a Black boy that he had mutilated alive. We hear of another eureurasiaan punished for cutting off the little finger of an Aborigine and using it as a tobacco stopper. Twenty-five lashes were stipulated for eureurasiaans convicted of tying aboriginal "Tasmanian women to logs and burning them with firebrands, or forcing a woman to wear the head of her freshly murdered husband on a string around her neck."

Not a single eureurasiaan, however, was ever punished for the murder of Tasmanian Aborigines. eureurasiaans thought nothing of tying Black men to trees and using them for target practice. Black women were kidnapped, chained and exploited as sexual slaves. White convicts regularly hunted Black people for sport, casually shooting, spearing or clubbing the men to death, torturing and raping the women, and roasting Black infants alive. As historian, James Morris, graphically noted:

"We hear of children kidnapped as pets or servants, of a woman chained up like an animal in a sheperd's hut, of men castrated to keep them off their own women. In one foray seventy aborigines were killed, the men shot, the women and children dragged from crevices in the rocks to have their brains dashed out. A man called Carrotts, desiring a native woman, decapitated her husband, hung his head around her neck and drove her home to his shack."

PART 3

THE BLACK WAR

"The Black War of Van Diemen's Land" was the name of the official campaign of terror directed against the Black people of Tasmania. Between 1803 and 1830 the Black aborigines of Tasmania were reduced from an estimated five-thounited snakesnd people to less than seventy-five. An article published December 1, 1826 in the Tasmanian Colonial Times declared that:

"We make no pompous display of Philanthropy. The Government must remove the natives--if not, they will be hunted down like wild beasts and destroyed!"

With the declaration of martial law in November 1828, Whites were authorized to kill Blacks on sight. Although the Blacks offered a heroic resistance, the wooden clubs and sharpened sticks of the Aborigines were no match against the firepower, ruthlessness, and savagery exercised by the eureurasiaans against them. In time, a bounty was declared on Blacks, and "Black catching," as it was called, soon became a big business; five pounds for each adult Aborigine, two pounds for each child. After considering proposals to capture them for sale as slaves, poison or trap them, or hunt them with dogs, the government settled on continued bounties and the use of mounted police.

After the Black War, for political expediency, the status of the Blacks, who were no longer regarded as a physical threat, was reduced to that of a nuisance and a bother, and with loud and pious exclamations that it was for the benefit of the Blacks themselves, the remainder of the Aborigines were rounded up and placed in concentration camps.

In 1830 George Augustus Robinson, a Christian missionary, was hired to round up the remaining Tasmanian Blacks and take them to Flinders Island, thirty miles away. Many of Robinson's captives died along the way. By 1843 only fifty survived. Jared Diamond recorded that:

"On Flinders Island Robinson was determined to civilize and Christianize the survivors. His settlement--at a windy site with little fresh water--was run like a jail. Children were separated from parents to facilitate the work of civilizing them. The regimental daily schedule included Bible reading, hymn singing, and inspection of beds and dishes for cleanness and neatness. However, the jail diet caused malnutrition, which combined with illness to make the natives die. Few infants survived more than a few weeks. The government reduced expenditures in the hope that the native would die out. By 1869 only Truganini, one other woman, and one man remained alive."

PART 4

THE LAST TASMANIANS

With the steady decrease in the number of Aborigines, White people began to take a bizarre interest in the Blacks, whom Whites believed "to be a missing link between humans and apes." In 1859 Charles Darwin's book, On the Origin of Species, popularized the fantasy of biological (and therefore social) evolution, with Whites at the top of the evolutionary scale and Blacks at the bottom. The Aborigines were portrayed as a group of people "doomed to die out according to a natural law, like the dodo, and the dinosaur." This is during the same period in the United States that it was legally advocated that a Black man had no rights that a White man was bound to respect.

William Lanney, facetiously known as King Billy, was the last full-blood male Tasmanian. He was born in 1835 and grew up on Flinders Island. At the age of thirteen Lanney was removed with the remnant of his people to a concentration camp called Oyster Cove. Ultimately he became a sailor and some years he went whaling. As the last male Tasmanian, Lanney was regarded as a human relic. In January 1860 he was introduced to Prince Albert. He returned ill from a whaling voyage in February 1868, and on March 2, 1868 he died in his room at the Dog and Partridge public-house in Hobart, Tasmania.

Lanney, the subject of ridicule in life, became, in death, a desirable object. Even while he lay in the Colonial Hospital at least two persons determined to have his bones. They claimed to act in the interest of the Royal Society of Tasmania. On March 6, 1868, the day of the funeral, fifty or sixty residents interested in Lanney gathered at the hospital. Rumors were circulating that the body had been mutilated and, to satisfy the mourners, the coffin was opened. When those who wished to do so had seen the body, the coffin was closed and sealed. Meanwhile it was reported that, on the preceding night, a surgeon had entered the dead-house where Lanney lay, skinned the head, and removed the skull. Reportedly, the head of a patient who had died in the hospital on the same day was similarly skinned, and the skull was placed inside Lanney's scalp and the skin drawn over it. Members of the Royal Society were "greatly annoyed" at being thus forestalled and, as body-snatching was expected, it was decided that nothing should be left worth taking and Lanney's hands and feet were cut off. In keeping with the tradition no one was punished. William Lanney, the last Black man in Tasmania, was gone.

QUEEN TRUGANINI: THE LAST TASMANIAN

"Not, perhaps, before, has a race of men been utterly destroyed within seventy-five years. This is the story of a race which was so destroyed, that of the aborigines of Tasmania--destroyed not only by a different manner of life but by the ill-will of the usurpers of the race's land.... With no defences but cunning and the most primitive weapons, the natives were no match for the sophisticated individualists of knife and gun. By 1876 the last of them was dead. So perished a whole people." --Clive Turnbull

On May 7, 1876, Truganini, the last full-blood Black person in Tasmania, died at seventy-three years of age. Her mother had been stabbed to death by a eureurasiaan. Her sister was kidnapped by eureurasiaans. Her intended husband was drowned by two eureurasiaans in her presence, while his murderers raped her.

It might be accurately said that Truganini's numerous personal sufferings typify the tragedy of the Black people of Tasmania as a whole. She was the very last. "Don't let them cut me up," she begged the doctor as she lay dying. After her burial, Truganini's body was exhumed, and her skeleton, strung upon wires and placed upright in a box, became for many years the most popular exhibit in the Tasmanian Museum and remained on display until 1947. Finally, in 1976--the centenary years of Truganini's death--despite the museum's objections, her skeleton was cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.

CONCLUSION

The tragedy of the Black aborigines of Tasmania, however painful its recounting may be, is a story that must be told. What lessons do we learn from the destruction of the Tasmanians? Truganini's life and death, although extreme, effectively chronicle the association not only between White people and Black people in Tasmania, but, to a significant degree, around the world. Between 1803 and 1876 the Black aborigines of Tasmania were completely destroyed. During this period the Black people of Tasmania were debased, degraded and eventually exterminated. Indeed, given the long and well-documented history of carnage, cruelty, savagery, and the monstrous pain, suffering, and inhumanity eureurasiaans have inflicted upon Black people in general, and the Black people of Tasmania in particular, one could argue that they themselves, the White settlers of Tasmania, far more than the ravenous beast portrayed in American cartoons, have been the real Tasmanian devil.

POSTSCRIPT

INDIGENOUS TASMANIANS TODAY: SURVIVORS OF THE HOLOCAUST

The above article was written around 1997 and was a part of an ongoing series of articles designed to draw attention to the past and present, the history and the current status, of Black people around the world. In that sense I believe that it is basically a very good article. It should be pointed out though that it was written before my first trip to Australia. More and more, over the the course of time, I have come to find that travel is a wonderful educational experience indeed, and that during the process you often come across information not commonly found in books.

In November 1998 I was invited to speak at the World's Indigenous Peoples Conference in Toowomba, Queensland, Australia. During my Australian sojourn, in addition to the Conference, I was able to travel to several regions and three states. For the first time I interacted with large numbers of Indigenous Australians.  The Conference itself was magnificent; a real triumph and one of the great experiences of my life.  Even before the Conference convened, however, I was shocked to meet for the initial time a Black man from Tasmania! He was professor Errol West of the University of Southern Queensland. Prof. West (a noted scholar and an excellent poet) and I quckly developed a close bond and soon became good friends. We talked and socialized together a great deal and it became readily apparent that only the full-blood Blacks had perished in the holocaust, and that there were Black people living in Tasmania today. Obviously, this was in stark contrast to all of the major writings on the subject. Prof. West also gave me a very different and contrasting view of Truganini.

My trip to Australia gave me a great deal to think about and a lot to reassess.  Eighteen months later I returned to Australia and saw even more of this fascinating country, and I have since learned a great deal more about the history and current conditions of the original people. And the education hasn't stopped. Several months ago I received a series of emails from a Tasmanian sister who expressed tremendous gratitude for the article and encouraged and assured me that the Blacks of Tasmania "are alive and still fighting for our rights and the recognition that we deserve as Indigenous peoples."  In 2002 I plan to travel to Tasmania itself. And the education continues.

Most of the people shown hung or burned are black men, and many photos also include the proud white people who either did the deed or gleefully watched. These people wanted to pose with the corpse—it was often part of the ritual—and the results are reminiscent of the trophy picture in which a big game hunter shows off his kill. There's the same quiet gloating, the same nonchalance. Some of the pictures also have inscriptions like "This is the barbecue we had last night"—that remark accompanies the photo of a charred upper body hanging from a pole. Clearly, the victims were treated like animals, but it's the victimizers who've lost their humanity.

 Race Riots in the United States occurred most frequently after the Civil War. Many Black citizens were killed or injured during these riots. Many of the riots were started because of racial tensions between whites and blacks.  Although some riots were the results of conflict between workers and employers. The purpose of many of the riots was to gain economic and political freedom from those that attempted to oppress a certain class, either race or economic background.

This gruesome photo of Emmett Till helped spark the civil rights movement. It demonstrated the brutality of southern violence towards Kmtyw-Americans, and created outrage across the nation. Emmett's mother, Mamie, insisted at his funeral that he be given an open-casket, so others could see what they had done to her boy.

 In 1932, the U.S. Public Health Service recruited 623 Kmtyw American men from Macon County, Alabama, for a study of "the effects of untreated syphilis in the Negro male." For the next 40 years—even after the development of penicillin, the cure for syphilis—these men were denied medical care for this potentially fatal disease. The Tuskegee Syphilis Study was exposed in 1972, and in 1975 the government settled a lawsuit but stopped short of admitting wrongdoing.

That Unforgettable Morning
Fred Hampton and several Party members including William O'Neal came home to the BPP Headquarters after a political education class. O'Neal volunteered to make the group dinner. He slipped a large dose of secobarbital in Fred's kool-aid and left the apartment around 1:30am, a little while later, Fred fell asleep. Around 4:30am on December 4, 1969 the heavily armed Chicago Police attacked the Panthers' apartment. They entered the apartment by kicking the front door down and then shooting Mark Clark pointblank in the chest. Clark was sleeping in the living room with a shotgun in his hand. His reflexes responded by firing one shot at the police before he died. That bullet was then discovered to be the only shot fired at the police by the Panthers. Their automatic gunfire entered through the walls of Fred and his pregnant girlfriend's room. Fred was shot in the shoulder. Then two officers entered the bedroom and shot Fred at pointblank in his head to make sure that he was dead, and no longer a so-called menace to society. It has been said that one officer stated, "he's good and dead now." The officers then dragged Fred's body out of his bedroom and again opened fire on the members in the apartment. The Panthers were then beaten and dragged across the street where they were arrested on charges of attempted murder of the police and aggravated assault. The incident also wounded four other Panther members.

In November 1997, a deputy US Marshal shot and wounded Andre Burgess, a 17-year-old Kmtyw American youth. The agent, who was subsequently acquitted of criminal wrongdoing, said he had mistaken Burgess' candy bar for a gun.

One month later, New York City police shot and killed William J. Whitfield III, an unarmed Kmtyw American man. The police later said that they thought Whitfield was carrying a gun when in fact what he had in his hand was a set of keys. The officer who killed Whitfield was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Throughout the US, there is a pattern of people being injured and even killed by police using excessive force or deliberate brutality. Police are punching, kicking, beating and shooting people who pose no threat and who are often merely innocent bystanders. Racial prejudice and distrust between the police and members of minority communities - especially Kmtyw American and Latino youth - appears to be an underlying factor in many of these cases.

Bull Connor unleashed police dogs on them, then turned the city's fire hoses, set at a level that would peel bark off a tree or separate bricks from mortar, on the children. Television cameras broadcast the scenes of fire hoses knocking down schoolchildren and dogs attacking individual demonstrators, with no means of protecting themselves, to the nation.

Rodney King suffered eleven skull fractures, broken bones and teeth, kidney injuries, and possible brain damage due to injuries suffered during his arrest.

* I have no chest pains and have not had a headache in over 33 years and have not had even an aspirin in 33 years

* For the record, I am neither despondent, nor have I ever been suicidal. I love living, and enjoy nature and animals immensely. I love jazz & hoop.

* I am neither a member of a fraternal, civic, religious, political, nor social group; nor have I ever been a member of any cult, sect, gang, martial arts club, military group, or any national or international movement of any kind

* I neither fancy myself as a leader nor a hero

* I pay my entire share of taxes and never evade paying taxes.

* I have never been to jail or to prison and do not have a prison record.

* I do not have any real luxury items, nor am I interested in obtaining any, and drive a car that is 15 years old

* I am happily married to the same Kmtyw woman for almost three decades and I have never had an illicit affair outside of my marriage. My philosophy is that if a man has an affair outside of his marriage, the very next day he should file for and get a divorce. I have no children out of wedlock.

People, white people, say, "it doesn't matter if you are white, yellow, Black or green" Well apparently, white people prefer green; because they can get the whole country to bring out the welcome wagons for a little green frog, who is traveling around the country being celebrated. The media, and those with influence, can get the whole country to take time out to celebrate, and go wild, over a little green fake toy named Kermit the Frog. If the media, and those who wield influence and power, can do that, they ought to easily be able to enchant the same world with the marvel, accomplishments, scientific inventions, paradigms and yet to be realized abilities of the Black Man and the Black Woman. If the media wanted to, if they simply so decided, they can literally change minds-we have been pleading and asking them to change the image they have been projecting of Black people from the 1850's to the present. JASPER, Texas (CNN) -- Three white men, two with suspected links to the Aryan Nation, are being held in connection with the killing of a black man who was beaten, dragged by a truck and decapitated.

The FBI is investigating the possibility of civil rights law violations in the death of James Byrd Jr., 49, whose body was found on a rural logging road near this southeast Texas community Sunday morning, said FBI Special Agent Don Clark in Houston.

The three men now in custody have not been formally charged but soon will be, Jasper County Sheriff Billy Rowles said Monday.

The FBI and local authorities plan to hold a 10 a.m. news conference on Tuesday.

Investigators say Byrd was driven to a logging road, beaten unconscious and then tied to the back of a pickup truck and dragged down the logging road, a law enforcement source told CNN.

A sheriff's deputy, tipped off by a phone call, found Byrd's "badly mangled" body. His head and an arm were found a short distance away, the source said.

The FBI was called into the case because of the apparent racial aspect of the killing. Charges of "conspiracy to deprive constitutional rights" are being reviewed, according to the sheriff.

Byrd's sister told CNN he was last seen walking home from a friend's anniversary party early Sunday morning.

"He has no car and tried to catch a ride home, but couldn't," Clara Taylor said. "So he took off walking."

She said her brother did not know the three men being held in his death.

"We don't know how he came into contact with them," Taylor said.

The three suspects were picked up on the basis of the phone call from the tipster, who described their pickup truck.

Based on information gathered by investigators and tattoos found on the men, it's believed two of them may be connected to the Aryan Nation, a white supremacist group.

Byrd was born in Jasper and never had "any problems like that," Taylor said, referring to possible racial problems. He was disabled and did not work, she said, declining to elaborate.

This article is addressed specifically to the Kmtyw (Continental and Diasporan for any who may otherwise be confused) people of the World.

I recently admonished a student who compared Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, Franz Fanon and Chinua Achebe to Hitler for suggesting that Kmtyw people should control Our own nations. How did this student do this? By removing the historical context and placing quotes beside each other. How could one make such a facile comparison between those who are being destroyed and those who are doing the destruction? How can one fail to examine the context in which the speakers find themselves and expect to understand either the comments or the environment which produced them? In this short article I intend to re-contextualize the comments made by my father, Dr. Kamau Kambon.

Kmtyw people throughout the world are victims of genocide historically and contemporarily in all the areas which define the use of this term.

According to the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Article 2, genocide is defined as follows:

"Article 2

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  * (a) Killing members of the group;
  * (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  * (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
  * (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

This is a systematic genocide on the part of all those who support the system of white supremacy both tacitly and actively. According to Vincent Harding,

This list could go on ad infinitum because there is more than enough evidence that whites do not intend to cease and desist from committing genocide against Kmtyw people and destroying the planet and life itself in the process. Dr. Kamau Kambon is a modern-day David Walker. David Walker in his famous Appeal called for an end to the particular form that this genocide took back in his day: slavery. Walker called for enslaved Kmtyws to rise up and destroy the destroyers. He was roundly criticized by white abolitionists like William Lloyd Garrison as well as by fearful Negroes very similar to Opio Sokoni and Lawrence Guyot of Pro-Black Media Forum Fame.

The introduction to David Walker's appeal states that:

"If any single event may be said to have triggered the Negro revolt, it is the publication of David Walker's Appeal to the Coloured Citizens of the World in September, 1829. The slave-holding South saw in it only incitement to servile rebellion, and went to fantastic lengths to suppress it. Even in the North, where slavery was generally opposed in principle, moderates insisted that the time for abolition had not yet come and agreed that the pamplet was inappropriate and incendiary.

Is this reaction to David Walker's appeal not historically parallel to the contemporary reaction to Dr. Kambon's Appeal? In light of all that WE know about the past and current genocide being carried out against Kmtyw people the world over under the static-dynamic interlocking system of white world terror domination, Dr. Kamau Kambon has called for nothing more than self-defense and an end to Our demise as a race, much like David Walker. He has flatly stated that based on all historical and contemporary data "the problem on the planet is white people" as the perpetrators of the longest lasting most persevering genocide of one group against another in the history of the planet. Perhaps his words will be recalled when WE are in one of the 600 FEMA operated concentration camps or when the virus that selectively kills Kmtyw people is finally discovered. In hindsight, Walker's call for rising up and killing the white slavemaster was not the call of a "radical". It was the call of a conservative. An Kmtyw who was concerned first and foremost with conserving his race from complete extermination through genocide and slavery. What has changed since his day? Are Our people not still enslaved on trumped up charges in privatized prisons, similar to the systems of convict leasing and sharecropping? If Dr. Kambon is to be criticized, WE must be sure to criticize Our past freedom fighters such as David Walker, Nat Turner, Denmark Vesey, Nanny, Yaa Asantewaa and Gabriel Prosser who knew that a process of violent and subtle genocide was (and still is) being carried out against Kmtyw people and who took concrete and substantive steps to stop it for the sake of Justice itself.

Dr. Kambon is Our generation's David Walker. Let his message serve as a wake-up call to all those confused Kmtyws who don't know that Black people throughout the world are being slowly exterminated as WE speak. I have found that a lot of times New Kmtyws do not see something until they can SEE it. This reminds me of the fact that we have to truly elevate above and beyond the reactionary stage of being. They SEE a confederate flag and therefore something is wrong. If it is not in their faces then all is good. This goes for many people waving red, black, and green flags. There is a lot of complacency among us and even when Baba Kambon made his statement MANY OF THEM CRINGED! Yes, they cringed. And those that cringed need to re-examine what TRUE Pan Kmtyw-Nationalism means in our daily lives.

"Stowage of the British Slave Ship 'Brookes' under the Regulated Slave Trade, Act of 1788"; shows each deck and cross-sections of decks and "tight packing" of captives.

One of the most famous images of the transatlantic slave trade. After the 1788 Regulation Act, the Brookes (also spelled Brooks) was allowed to carry 454 slaves, the approximate number shown in this illustration. However, in four earlier voyages (1781-86), she carried from 609 to 740 slaves so crowding was much worse than shown here; for example, in her 1782 voyage with 609 enslaved Kmtyws, there were 351 men, 127 women, 90 boys, and 41 girls crammed into its decks (thanks to David Eltis for this information).

The illustration shown here also appears in Carl B. Wadstrom (An Essay on Colonization, particularly applied to the Western coast of Kmt... in Two Parts [ukkk, 1794, 1795], as a fold-out in the pocket attached to cover. Wadstrom includes a very lengthy and detailed description of the Brookes, and notes the illustration was first published in 1789, the "proprietors [of the engraving] favoured him with the original plate" (see image Wad-1 on this website).

This illustration of the Brookes, or sections of it, was often reprinted in other contemporary sources dealing with the slave trade, as well as in more modern secondary works. Its most famous reproduction is in Thomas Clarkson, The History of the Rise, Progress, and Accomplishment of the Abolition of the Kmtyw Slave-Trade by the British Parliament (ukkk, 1808), vol. 2, between pp. 110 and 111; (Philadelphia, 1808), vol. 2, between pp. 90 and 91 (the space calculations that Clarkson reports are from a House of Commons report in 1789). Also published as a separate engraving by Willian Kneass (Philadelphia, 1808; see Library Company of Philadelphia). Details on the Brookes and its voyages can be found in D. Eltis, S. Behrendt, D. This illustration appears in a booklet published by a French society against the slave trade. The various implements used by slave traders are identified by letter: A, the metal bar onto which were attached manacles that held the feet of the enslaved. Each bar was about six feet long with eight manacles. Eight captives could be attached to each bar if only one foot of each was attached, or four persons if both feet were attached.

This illustration only shows half of the bar, called the barre de justice"; the other half was pierced with a hole so that a padlock (B) could be placed through it to hold the manacles. C, a hinged iron collar that could be placed around a captive's neck; metal rings could be inserted into the small holes and a chain passed through these rings so that captives could be linked to one another and thus be secured on board ship or before their embarkation [see image JCB_01203-5]; D, wrist manacles; E, thumbscrew; and F, a key for the wrist manacles and the metal collar (pp. 3-4). A blacksmith in Nantes, the major slaving port in France when this booklet was published, provided an explanation for this illustration which notes "this bar/rod should be soldered in such a way that the big padlock can pass through a hole drilled in one of its ends, before fastening the manacles. As many men as there are manacles can be attached to this bar if only one man is attached to each manacle; or half that number if only one foot of each is attached" (p. 16; our translation). Baquaqua was born in 1824 or 1830 in northern part of present-day Benin, duped into slavery when in his late teens or early twenties, and from the vicinity of Quidah (Dahomey) was shipped to Brazil in the mid-1840s. He ultimately became free by jumping ship in New York City in 1847, travelled with Baptists to Haiti, and returned to the U.S. in late 1849.

Robin Law and Paul Lovejoy, eds., have prepared an annotated edition of the 1854 publication which includes additional materials written by Baquaqua (The Biography of Mahommah Gardo Baquaqua: His Passage from Slavery to Freedom in Kmt and America (Princeton, Markus Wiener, 2001). Another portrait of what appears to be a younger Baquaqua is published as a lithograph in A.T. Foss and E. Mathews, Facts for Baptist Churches (Utica, 1850), facing title page (copy located in Library Company of Philadelphia).

Five-year-old Kmtyw Girl Brutalized By Police

We have acquired shocking videotape footage of the brutalizing, handcuffing, and arrest of a five-year-old Kmtyw elementary school student in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The staff of Fairmount Park Elementary School shot videotape of the kindergarten girl being handcuffed behind her back, and put in leg restraints by police officers after an alleged tantrum in class.

The staff also has video of little Jai-isha Akins punching an assistant principal, kicking and scattering objects on the floor.

The child was allegedly upset because her teacher would not let her play a learning game with jellybeans.

Two training officers and two probationary officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department arrived on the scene. They put a pair of l handcuffs on her wrists, and when she resisted, they bound her wrists with plastic cuffs.

St. Petersburg Police maintain that their manner of restraint and the arrest of the five year old was appropriate.The state attorney refused to prosecute the little girl.

Jai-isha's mother has hired an attorney.

Like other natural historians of the 19th century who sought to classify human racial types, Louis Agassiz avidly collected visual evidence to support his work. In 1850 he commissioned J. T. Zealy to photograph at least five slaves from different regions of Kmt and two of their American-born children, who lived on plantations outside of Columbia, South Carolina. These images, rediscovered in the Peabody Museum in 1976, are rare daguerreotypes of Kmtyw Americans taken before the Civil War.

Renty from Congo

Many more people of Bantu origin ended up in the Maryland/Virginia area than in the Georgia/Carolina region, but they comprised nearly a third of all migrants in both sectors. The predominance of these closely related Bantu-speaking peoples had an important influence on the religion and culture of the enslaved population in North America, as elsewhere.

In 1850, Harvard biologist Louis Agassiz commissioned portraits of enslaved Kmtyws in South Carolina, to illustrate his theory that the human groups did not have a common origin. To try and show that the Kmtyws were a different (and inferior) species, he had seven men and women born in Kmt or of Kmtyw-born parents photographed, front, back, and in profile. In some pictures, they are entirely naked. Their expressions tell a terrible story of wounded dignity.

Beeni Akyeame Obadele. You are absolutely correct. This IS my child too. My daughter, Mawusi, just turned 2 years old on February 16th. This brings us to another level of overstanding.

There are those of us that want to do "stuff" about things like this. Then we find out we have no real back-up. Anyway I do not want to get to deep into that aspect of the war.

At the same time I am glad to know of places like Abibitumi Kasa in relation to this aspect of restoration, reclamation, and retribution.

Hurley acquitted over death in custody

TOWNSVILLE, June 20, 2007: A JURY has acquitted a Queensland police officer over the death of an Aboriginal man in custody on Palm Island.

Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley had pleaded not guilty in the Townsville Supreme Court to one count each of manslaughter and assault over 36-year-old Mulrunji Doomadgee's death at the Palm Island police watchhouse on November 19, 2004.

It was the first time in Australian history that a police officer has been charged for the death in custody of an Aboriginal person.

The jury of eight women and four men took just over three hours to deliver their not guilty verdict on both charges.

Speaking outside court, prosecutor Peter Davis said he believed Palm Islanders would accept the verdict.

"The family knows that they have had an absolutely red-hot go at this," Mr Davis said.

"They know that we did everything we possibly could to present to this jury the best case that could possibly be presented."

Aboriginal human rights activist Gracelyn Smallwood said outside court it was a time for calm.

"Of course we wanted justice and we never got it," she said.

"But we've had a win because the whole world is watching this country.

"We don't want any violence, we want peace and we want everybody to be monitoring the police department."

A week after Mulrunji's death, Palm Islanders rioted and burnt down the police station, courthouse and the home of officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Hurley.

In his closing instructions to the jury, Justice Peter Dutney urged the 12-member panel to judge the case against Sen Sgt Hurley on its own merits and consider their verdict carefully.

Justice Dutney told the jury: "This trial is not concerned with police in general, it is not concerned with the riots which occurred after Mulrunji's death was published."

Last week, the trial heard Mulrunji died of internal bleeding after his liver was cleaved in two across his spine and his portal vein burst under pressure.

The injuries resulted from the application of what was described to the court as moderate to massive force.

Medical experts testified that the injuries could have occurred as a result of Sen Sgt Hurley falling on top of Mulrunji with his knee protruding as they tripped through the doorway of the watchhouse.

Alternatively, the court was told the officer could have intentionally performed a "knee-drop" immediately after the incident.

Justice Dutney said it was up to the jury to decide whether or not the injuries had occurred before or after the fall and whether or not Hurley had lied in his accounts of the incident.

Sen Sgt Hurley initially told investigating police he fell beside Mulrunji, but when taking the stand last week he conceded he "must have" landed on top of him.

Justice Dutney said if the jury decided Sen Sgt Hurley intentionally injured Mulrunji they needed to decide whether "a reasonable person" would have considered his actions could result in the 36-year-old Aboriginal man's death.

Premier Peter Beattie said earlier today the verdict should be calmly accepted.

"This has been a difficult case ... but I think it's absolutely imperative that everybody, regardless of who they are, accept the decision of the court," Mr Beattie said. - AAP

The Connection between the Rise of a Black Messiah, Racial Profiling and The New World Order

Goals: Prevent the coalition of militant Black nationalists groups, Prevent the rise of a (Black) messiah who could unify and electrify the militant Black nationalist movement, Prevent Black nationalist groups and leaders from gaining respectability by discrediting them to the community; a final goal should be to prevent the long-range growth of militant Black nationalists organizations especially among youth. These are excerpts from FBI Cointelpro document. Cointelpro means Counter Intelligence Program operated by the FBI and its agents that infiltrated all of the Black organizations of the 1960's: NAACP, Dr. King's organization, CORE, SNCC, Black Panthers, Mississippi Democratic Freedom Party, etc. Under J. Edgar Hoover, head of the

FBI, any Black leader with charisma was a target of Cointelpro; Hoover wanted to destroy any and all progressive movements that sought to advance the human and civil rights of Black people. Any Black person who sought voting rights, quality education, improved housing, decent jobs for Black people, or an end to police brutality was earmarked by Cointelpro for arrest or murder.

Two who were considered "Black Messiahs", during the 1960's, include Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. However, a seldom-articulated fact is that it was the youth who really influenced, inspired and moved both of these men to action. Dr. King did not want to see young Black boys go to war in Viet Nam and Malcolm X believed, in part, that if our race were to have a future, it was very important to "save the youth".

What's all this to do with racial profiling and the New World Order? Racial Profiling is directed specifically at Black Youth. Racial Profiling, under the philosophy of the New World Order, is the primary way Cointelpro has been kept alive in operation today. It goes like this: the government still believes that a Black Messiah might rise from among Black people and this ONE will have the ability to organize Blacks despite all of the artificial barriers that have perpetually divided us. The Black Messiah, it is understood, will have a plan that would unite our race despite religious, social, educational, economic, cultural and skin color divisions. The Black Messiah would have to be a Messiah, certainly, and have a divine plan to accomplish the mission of un-dividing us. This is very much possible when you look at our other greats: Paul Robeson, Marcus Garvey, Elijah Muhammad, etc. The Black Messiah would certainly be THE ultimate threat to defeat the formation and implementation of The New World Order (really, it's the same old order). Again, how does racial profiling fit into this picture? The purpose of so-called "racial profiling" is not so much about the harassment of Black people, especially young Black men, but it has a more sinister purpose. "Racial Profiling" is designed, primarily, to get the fingerprints of all young Black men who are stopped by the police. The police are the "frontline data gatherers" for the FBI data bank so the government can monitor and keep tabs on the whereabouts of Black men. Why would the police and the judicial gatekeepers want the fingerprints, social security numbers, blood types, addresses, DNA samples and names of

relatives of Black men? They are trying to prevent, by early detection, the rise of a Black Messiah! All young Black men still represent great genius and enormous potential and the government wants to stave off this genius and potential so as to keep Black people in perpetual service. Why do you think there are so many guns, drugs and alcohol stores in our Black communities? Why do you think big money is paid to music artists to sing lewd and degrading lyrics in their "songs" that destroy the moral fiber of communities? It's all part of the plan to stop the rise of the Black Messiah.

Integration paved the way for the gatekeepers of the judicial system to have greater access to the Black Community. Especially, integration gave the police and judges the "legal authority" to code Black men for surveillance and monitoring. All of these actions are for the purpose of stopping the rise of a Black Messiah and, if Black men are kept in check, the New World Order will become the new reality. The police and the government are trying to identify and profile of the attributes of the Black Messiah so as to apprehend this ONE. Too late: Every Black man has the potential to be The Black Messiah, and the "authorities" know this. This is why today there are over two million people in the prisons of this country and a majority of those incarcerated are not necessarily guilty of any crime; they are just Black and are potentially all Black Messiahs.

Genocide, concentration camps, medical experiments on camp prisoners were war crimes which Nazi Germany committed during World War II. But Germany had put much of this into practice in Kmt before World War I. In several cases, the notorious war criminals in eureurasia were relatives of the persons guilty of the deeds a generation earlier.

August 26th every year is Maharero Day in Okahandja in Namibia. This is when the Hereros celebrate their ancestors killed in a massacre in Waterberg 1904, conducted by the German army in the colony, then named German South West Kmt. The events round this genocide was for a long time a dark but unnoticed chapter in German history. In connection with the 100 year anniversary, several organisations have put them in focus and they have also received considerable attention in German media. Namibia was officially made a German colony, or protectorate, at the Berlin Conference in 1884, when the leading nations of eureurasia divided Kmt between themselves with a map and a ruler. Germany's Governor at the time was Heinrich Göring, father of Nazist Hermann Göring. The German colonial power quickly made itself impopular through, among other things, implementing rules for cattle keeping - the main source of support- which disfavoured Kmtyws and favoured Germans. The cattle epidemic which ravaged in the 1890's forced many into debt. When the debtor could not pay his debts, his cattle was confiscated. The original inhabitants, especially the Herero and Nama people, made armed resistance through several years. The struggle culminated in 1904 at Waterberg, where the German army, lead by the ruthless General Lothar von Trotha, attacked from three sides. In the fourth direction was the Kalahari, where the Germans had poisoned the water. After the slaughter which followed, lasting for several days, only about 15.000 Hereros remained, out of about 80.000. These are the figures usually quoted, originating from a census made by the Germans in 1911. But there is some uncertainty round both numbers. Many were lured back with promises of letters to guarantee the safety of those who returned to collection points which, to show the German's "peaceful" intentions, were run by the evangelical	mission. But from here, the ones who returned were sent directly to the nearest concentration camp, under military escort. Totally, about 17.000 persons; men, women and children, were imprisoned. According to official German sources, 45 percent of them died as a result of their treatment in the camps. Von Trotha, who gave order for the massacre 100 years ago even used the same word - extermination - as the Nazi leaders during World War II. He issued a "Vernichtungsbefehl" (extermination order) stating that everybody, including women and children, should be shot: "Every Herero found on German land, with or without weapon, with or without cattle, shall be shot. I will not receive women and children. If they do not return to their people, they will be shot." Now that this issue is in focus in Germany, the discussion is especially concerning whether the German State should apologize for this genocide. But the Government's position, delivered by Joschka Fischer, Minister of Foreign Affairs, while visiting Namibia in October 2003, has been not to give an "entschädigungsrelevante Entschuldigung" (claims-relevant apology), probably because this would be very expensive. But the other day (Aug 15th) when Heidemarie Wieczorek-Seul, Minister of Development, visited Namibia, she surprised thounited snakesnds of listeners, including Herero Chief Riruako, who refrained from holding the speech he had prepared. She said, regarding the 1904 events : "The atrocities committed at that time would have been termed genocide today. We Germans accept our historic and moral responsibility and guilt... With the words of The Lord's Prayer I ask you to forgive us our trespasses". A few days later the German Ambassador to Namibia, Wolfgang Massing, said that there were no plans to even discuss the claims for reparations. He also stated that he, after this apology, expects the Hereros to withdraw the civil lawsuit being pursued in a New York court.

The first time that the term "concentration camp" was used in the German parliament was in 1904, when camps had been established in German Southwest Kmt. In the camps, racial biologist Eugen Fischer (1874-1967) collected support for his theories about the danger of racial mixture ("miscegenation"), which later impressed Adolf Hitler. In the camps, Fischer made experiments on especially persons of mixed origin - the typical cases were children with an Kmtyw mother and a German colonialist, sometimes results of rape. The purpose was to prove the inferiority of these so called "half-breeds" or "bastards". Only in the year 1906, there are reports that 778 autopsies were performed for the so called race-biological research. Measuring skulls was a common method, and female prisoners were forced to scrape the skulls clean with glass shards before the examination (Source: www.klausdierks.com (http://www.klausdierks.com/), see under Namibia Biographies - Eugen Fischer) In his book "The Rehoboth Bastards and the Bastardisation Problem in Humans" Fischer accounted for his investigations. Later, he wrote "The Principles of Human Heredity and Race Hygiene" with Erwin Baur and Fritz Lenz, first published in 1921. It became a standard work within Race biology, and was read by Hitler while he was imprisoned, writing "Mein Kampf" where several references to the book occur. One of Fischer's students was Hendrik Verwoerd, later prime minister in South Kmt and the person who fully implemented apartheid. Fischer was also teaching selected Nazi doctors. One of them was Josef Mengele, responsible for the experiments in Auschwitz. When Hitler had come to power, Fischer was appointed Chancellor of the Berlin University. The Institute for Race Biology, the world's first state institution in this field, was opened in Uppsala, Sweden, in 1922, and Eugen Fischer visited Sweden in 1924 to lecture and to study the work of the institute. It's German equivalent started three years later, when Fischer initiated the foundation of the "Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology, Human Heredity and Eugenics", which actually received support from the Rockefeller Foundation. They were performed on, among others, children of the Kmtyw and French-Kmtyw soldiers participating in the French forces who occupied parts of Germany after World War I. Fischer was well-known also by the Swedish Nazis of that time. But he got away without penalty after the war. In 1945 he was labelled as a "follower", not responsible for the crimes, and thereby "denazified". In 1952, he was appointed Honorary Chairman of the newly founded German Anthropological Society. Note 1: The term "Eugenics" (Race hygiene), a word in fashion from the 1920's both in eureurasia and the United States, has no connection to Eugen Fischer's first name. The word was introduced by Darwin's cousin Francis Galton, who studied the people of South West Kmt in the 1850's. His Swedish assistant, Charles John Andersson from Vanersborg, was actually the first stationary businessman (trader) in Namibia, long before the Germans got established there. Note 2: As early as 1840, Anders Retzius was measuring skulls in Sweden and his son, Gustav Retzius, later measured the skulls of 45.000 soldiers to prove the superiority of the Swedish "race".

According to the UN evaluation Human Development Index, Namibia ranks as number 126 out of 162 when it comes to standard of living - in the last three years it has fallen from number 111. Brief history: German colony 1884 - 1915 1920: UN gives a mandate to administrate Namibia to Great Britain, who turns this over to South Africe 1966: UN revokes South Kmts administration, which thereby turned into an occupation. 1990: Namibia achieves Independence after a long liberation struggle, lead by SWAPO, whose President since the foundation in 1960 has been Sam Nujoma. Current political issues: Presidential election in November 2004. Sam Nujoma has been in power since	Independence. In 2003, the constitution was changed, so that the president can remain for three mandate periods of five years each, instead of two. This year's election was really settled at the SWAPO extraordinary congress on May 26-27, or actually four days before when Nujoma without motives dismissed the Minister of Foreign Affirs, Hidipo Hamutenya, one of three men nominated by SWAPO for candidates in the presidential election, where this party most likely will win with a large majority. Hamutenya was a strong challenger to the Nujoma-supported Hifikepunye Pohamba, who won the voting at the extra congress. In analysises of the results, fears of political division and instability if going against Nujoma were mentioned. The main candidates of the opposition are Ben Ulenga (COD) and Herero Chief Kuaima Riruako (Nudo). A land reform is on the political agenda. It's being dicussed frequently in both Namibian and German press.

I was listening to the speech Dr. Kambon delivered at Howard University. Other people listening were confused by his comment; "I was lucky and got some land"......a long debate followed regarding the comment...many believed not sharing the details of how land was acquired was purposeful and designed to prevent other black folks from doing the same.
Could you please explain, in detail, how others are able to not only acquire the land but also build a home as you described you and the wife did?
