I love it too! It was fun. It started out as a way to help him differentiate between "meda ase" and "yEnna ase". Zenzele will be starting her Twi studies this month, so I look forward to her learning and communicating with me, in Twi. Also, her studies will surely demand more of our time directed towards the language, as well as the history and culture. I am excited. We want to take an AkOm songs class before we welcome our returning ancestor... I will be petitioning for the class to take place in a month or so to Obadele!!! lol

@ Nana, Yes we are still planning to attend SankOfa Journey as a family this year! However, we have been running into some difficulty with navigating around the social security/birth certificate request. We recently welcomed a returning ancestor into this world via a beautiful natural home birth. Upon our daughter's birth, we refused to register her and "give" her a social security number. This has been presenting some travel difficulties, so it seems we will have to revisit our decision and construct an exit plan if no alternative travel avenues are learned.
Also, we have also spoken about only one of us taking the trip, but we are hoping to find a way for us all to attend. I mentioned to Obadele that I will have the opportunity to travel to Ghana next year through a study abroad program, but I'm more than willing to pay for the SankOfa journey experience once in Ghana...
I admire your courage. Indeed there are challenges. As you are aware Obadele and one of his sisters were delivered at home. We were able to get birth certificates easily and we did not have social security numbers assigned to them because they were not born in a hospital. We were told we needed to apply for a number. The health department sent a nurse to investigate. Easily we were able to prove I had been pregnant and they were born here. The rules may have changed regarding SS#s. We did eventually obtain SSI#s after moving to NC. That is why our children have NC numbers instead of NY numbers.
