Title: Jamaican Maroon Spirit Possession Language-gctid23322
Post by: pain on Jul 21, 2007, 06:56 PM
This is a book in pdf form that I found online about the language spoken by the ancestors and ancestresses who possess during rituals in Jamaica. The language they speak is different from the "creole" that's spoken by most people in Jamaica today. It more so resembles how some of our people speak in Suriname. One thing I found interesting was that while it was noted that whenever the recently deceased possessed they'll speak just like how people speak in Jamaica today, after they've been dead about 10 years or so and they possess they'll speak in the old language. So it's just like in this world where if one goes into a country where another language is predominantly spoken the individual entering that land would be the one who adopts the language of the group already there and not vice versa.

Anyway, here ya go.
