Class begins Saturday June 11th at 10AM-12PM EST

Course  Description
        Introductory Kiswahili is an eight week course  where  you will learn the essentials to function in a Kiswahili-speaking   environment within an East Kmtyw cultural  context. You will learn  greetings, introductions and basic conversational  skills. You will  learn pronunciation, sentence structure, regular verb tenses  and noun  classes. Cultural lessons are part of language learning and you will   learn how to count and tell time, how the family and community are  structured,  how to address different people, proverbs and the names of  important food,  places, items etc... Learning activities are  appropriate for all ages and will  include listening, speaking, singing,  reading, role-playing, writing and games.  You will be expected to  reinforce learning between classes by completing  homework assignments  and by learning and using vocabulary words. A practical  assessment of  acquired skills concludes the course.
                                  Course  Materials
        Access to  downloadable/streamed files containing  entire lessons with notes,  exercises, assignments and multimedia  learning activities in addition to a list  of supplementary learning  resources will be made available.

                                  Somo la  kwanza:  matamshi (pronounciation) of vowels, digraphs and syllables, greetings
                                              Somo la  pili:   Kujitambulisha (introductions),  numbers, more greetings, syntax
                                              Somo la  tatu:   Family members, days of the  week, months, years, at home, nouns and  verbs
                                              Somo la  nne:   Community members, time, in the  community, verb tenses and  conversation
                                              Somo la  tano:   City life, directions, asking  questions, adjectives
                                              Somo la  sita:   Village life, events and  customs, parts of the body, food, noun  classes
                                              Somo la  saba:   Proverbs, music, clothing,  animals, colours, more sentence structures
                                              Somo la  nane:   Review, practical assignment/project  due date and assessment
