Blacknificient! Thanks for posting.
Absolutely amazing! Kmtyw genius never ceases to amaze! This post could help save lives one day. Maita basa Sister Akua.
This let's us know that really....we don't need the white man's electricity to survive. This is too simple. I love it! No Freon, no nothing...just pots, dirt, and water.:1star:
@ Kimberly - i think they use sand, not dirt. sand would be cooler.
@ tare and Okomfo - anything for the blacknificent!
@ all - i was really amazed at the simple genius of this. since moving back home two yrs ago i've been cooking with "muddy pots" (clay pots) made by one of the few remaining Kmtyw potters on the island. i've been saving to get a coal pot so that i can get used to cooking without a stove and now i have a way to keep food cool without a fridge. looking forward to trying this. again, our simple genius never ceases to amaze me!

@ Akua: Dirt, sand; same thing to me. Any way, it is genius.
Not quite sis. Dirt actually holds in warmth. Sand has the opposite effect, hence its use for refrigeration purposes in this case. So in a very warm place like in the Caribbean, using dirt (mud after the water is poured on it) would warm it up instead of cool it down. Just wanted to clarify in case you, or anyone else reading this thread, want to make use of this refrigeration process.

I love this! I am always looking for ways to Keep it Simple and Keep it Sane. I'm not too far from the beach and I always end up bringing unwanted sand home anyway :). May as well put it to good use.
