"There are those cases where mobs, often after a night of a religious-revival meeting, charge to a local shrine to destroy it," Uzoatu, the university researcher, said in an interview in the southeastern city of Onitsha. "There are also those cases where individuals voluntarily destroy shrines and artifacts they inherited from their ancestors. The result is always the same, vital cultural evidence is lost."
The government needs to fund an educational campaign against the destruction of cultural artifacts, Joseph Mangut, secretary of the Archaeological Association of Nigeria, said in a phone interview.
"The citizens need to know and be educated on the fact that we would never know where we are going to if we do not know where we came from," he said.

They're demolishing our shrines and replacing it with Caesar Borgia's face. They've been doing it before Boko Haram.
Christians especially pentecostals are very confrontational. There are so many unlettered pastors mis-educating the masses it's ridiculous.
One of the glaring issues with ATR is that it's not confrontational, and I'm not sure if that's a good strategy or a bad strategy. However I do recall Ptah Hotep instructing us to allow a fool to blabber until he runs out of energy before dismantling him with his words. Maybe these unlettered Pastors voices are about to run out and our people might realize that they've been listening to foolishness this whole time?
They been doing this for a minute, especially in Nigeria, long before I had ever heard of Boko Haram. More like Boko Haram is borrowing christian tactics.
