English translation :


The rooster and the elephant had bet as to which of them ate more than the other. The next morning they met at the agreed place and began to eat. Everyone began to eat his favorite food. At noon, the elephant was full and had fallen asleep. After much time, he woke up and found the rooster still filling his belly up. The elephant began to eat too. But he was satisfied before the rooster end. Then, he fled.

In the evening the rooster went up on the back of the elephant. But the elephant did not know because he was too sleepy. When the elephant awoke, he asked the rooster: " What are looking for on my back? "The rooster replied, "Nothing, I'm just eating the fleas that are on your skin."

The elephant was surprised by the little belly of the rooster which would never fill itself up. He was seized with fear and fled. Even today, the elephant flees when he hears the rooster's crow.

Le coq et l'éléphant avaient parié pour savoir lequel d'entre eux mangeait plus que l'autre. Le lendemain matin, ils se rencontrèrent au lieu convenu et commencèrent à manger. Chacun commença à manger sa nourriture préférée. À midi, l'éléphant s'était rassasié et s'était endormi. Après beaucoup de temps, il se réveilla et trouva le coq toujours en train de remplir son ventre. L'éléphant se mit à manger lui aussi. Mais il fut rassasié avant que le coq ne finisse. Alors, il s'enfuit.

Le soir, le coq monta sur le dos de l'éléphant. Mais l'éléphant ne le savait pas parce qu'il avait trop sommeil. Quand l'éléphant se réveilla, il demanda au coq : « Que cherches-tu sur mon dos ? » Le coq répondit : « Rien, je suis seulement en train de manger les puces qui sont sur ta peau. »

L'éléphant fut surpris du petit ventre du coq qui ne se remplissait pas. Il fût saisi de peur et il s'enfuit. Encore aujourd'hui, l'éléphant fuit lorsqu'il entend le coq chanter.
