Irete Meji on Fabrication (Odu Ifa Irete Meji owun Ejo Abosi)

As It was in ancient time, so it is today in the twenty first century
of human existence on earth, date being relative to human beings'
scientific records. Most people lie, many people falsify; some people
fabricate. All the deceitful acts, fabricated offense seem the worst
with which to be charged. Because of our ties to the past due to
evolutionary process, some of our deeds are still similar in some
respects to the deeds of our ancient progenitors. Today, people
falsify for different reasons: to convince, to cover up, or to hide
the truth from being known. Likewise, people fabricate awfully for
different reasons. Why some of the reasons for fabricating falsehood
can be as petty as winning the heart of loved ones or saving
friendship, some can really be as bad as causing bodily harm to the
intended victim or even death. Such was the case with Orunmila in the
following verse of an Odu Ifa Irete Meji from Ojulowo Oriki Ifa. The
verse says in part:

Ayilowule, awo igun
Ayilowule, Babalawo for Igun (vulture—personified )
Ni o da Ifa fun igun
Is who cast Ifa for Igun (Was the one who divined for Igun in this
particular instance)
Ayilowule, awo Akala
Ayilowule, Babalawo for Akala (another bird in vulture family—
personified)
Ni o da Ifa fun Akala
Is who cast Ifa for Akala (Was the one who divined for Akala in this
particular instance)
Ni ojo ti won mba Orunmila ro ejo iberi ni ode orun (ati bee bee)
The day that they with Orunmila state case cutting-head in outside-
spirit-world
[When Igun and Akala filed fabricated charges against Orunmila before
Odumare; charges that could that could have resulted in be-headedness—
charges that could have resulted in execution], etc.

The assumption is that every time we pray, we ask Odumare for various
blessings, blessings that might include protection against all
adversaries in life. Since most adversaries are in human forms,
praying that we do not consciously or unconsciously cause deliberate
pain to another human being will be a good addition to our daily or
occasional prayers. Lying on purpose, deliberately falsifying facts,
or determinedly fabricating falsehood, are some of the acts
disapproved by Odumare. So, as we go about our daily activities, may
we be protected against the kinds of above highlighted problems. At
the same time, may Odumare guide our actions so we do not indulge in
such distasteful deeds. Ase.
