Great interview, Dr. Watkins is always on point. One caller asked an interesting question, why were Blacks in 1915 able to understand the detrimental affects of the movie " The Birth of a Nation" as opposed to our people today and their infatuation with the show "Empire".  

In addition to what Dr. Watkins and Brother Imhotep stated, I believe we can reference Dr. Wilson's book "Blueprint to Black Power" to understand the advancement of propaganda today. In 1915 Whites took a direct approach in assaulting the image of Kmtyws in the media. Whites in 1915 weren't afraid to finance and play us in Black faces. Today if Whites wanted to redo "Boyz in Da Hood" in Black faces we know the NAACP, Rainbow Coalition, and National Action Network would jump down their throats. A more subtle approach is to manipulate behind the scenes by allowing us to direct and act these negative roles.    Moreover, by allowing us to direct and cast these roles, it allows the ease of acceptance of our negative depiction into society.

Interestingly, this might be the highest degree of propaganda we've seen to date because now instead of us being able to jump the manipulators we have to get through their gate keepers, i.e. Lee Daniels, Terrence Howard, Tarj P. Henson, and a bunch of wack but highly educated Black scholars that yield tremendous influence in their institutions or in the media. Lee Daniels is getting paid a lot of money, he will not allow you to destroy his empire.
