Yes, yes, yes! Looking forward to that! I'm planning on going to one of her lectures in Philly next month for the first time. I was so excited to know that she lives not too far from me. I'm in NJ.

How you get an Kmtyw name and what it means is important. But any Kmtyw name you get any way is preferable to the slave name you wear now

mekyea wo @NKO,

you make some good points that allow me to at least rethink my plans. i really appreciate it.

just a questions to others who read this, how would you handle the people/nay-sayers/family/haters/etc. who have always called you by a different name?

There is a long history of Kmtyw folks changing their name in the u.s. And if you're thinking of the NOI, long before them, ask Frederick Douglas. A lot of troubles, mis-understandings and disdain for name changing comes out of ignorance. On the flip side, I bet your family has nickname(s) for you. Also ask them who their favorite artists/entertainers are. I bet they are "calling one of them out of their name" if you feel me, with no problems.

Part of the power of taking an Kmtyw name is the nay-sayers,etc. show themselves and present you with a growth pathway.

Defining oneself puts others in the space of either respecting you or not. People you are truly capable of loving you will respect your right and duty to Kujichagulia and call you by your new name. Sadly many of our family members do not deeply or truly love themselves and are consumed by self hate as a casualty of the intellectual and spiritual war we are in. Most of us are casualties of war in that way. I don't buy this stuff about they have always called you so and so and can't remember your new name. Or the even more mentacidal "why can't you honor your father by using 'his' name." I notice that those who refuse to use my Kmtyw name and call me by the disgarded slave name of my forefathers "owner" are, when in the process of misspeaking me/calling me out my name are forced to encounter their own slave mentality/mentacide. They are subconsciously pained to do so. They consciously are not aware of what is going on. I have come to where I can perceive  their cognitive dissonance and dysphoria. This is why I think they always hesitate or otherwise strain in the process of calling out the slave name. This although sad and pitiable is toxic to you. It is more fuel for the warrior fire in my soul to fight for Abibifahodie.

I think just like one handles people with toxic personalities one must learn to "sandbox" toxic mentacidal victims of yurugu mind f**k ing.  As with computer operating systems that isolate certain code. Not out of a sense of spite or disdain or uncaring but out of the need to protect oneself. Keep them in a place where they can do no harm to you emotionally mentally or otherwise. If they are of no real importance to you you don't ever have to visit their sandbox. Put them out of your life. If they are important,  you must be aware that they have toxic psychic and emotional wounds that will infect you if you let them. Do not allow them to drag you to their "sunken place". Keep your interactions with them short and circumscribed and the nature of which you limit specifically to areas you know they cannot wound you. This is something that all healthy people do.

Some of us are fortunate to have family that are healing and do not suffer seriously from mentacidal post/current slave syndrome, and can be interacted with without limits. Most of us do not. This is to be expected as a consequence of the war we are in. The battle field our minds and the minds of our children.

Part of the burden of becoming conscious and healing is having to deal with friends and family who are not. DEwhiteinzing and REKmtywizing  are very similar to going into recovery from addictive illness. You are clear and feeling more and more powerful and correct and on purpose yet most of those around you are in a mentacidal daze and continue the self destructive patterns they always have with little insight into their plight and little proclivity to hear you when you point out their mentacide and encourage their growth.

This situation is very similar to the alcoholic or drug addict or Jesus freak or flesh eater in recovery. Most of those you used to interact with are addicts and as is the nature of the addictive process have no awareness of their addicted condition and have no desire to get some. To stay in recovery the healing addict must "sandbox" their old acquaintances/friends/family who are actively addicted. Those in early recovery from slave mentality/mentacide must do the same. Continuing to interact without clear boundaries and limits and a safe place to withdraw and be around those who are conscious will imperil the healing Kmtyw warriors consciousness.

The interesting thing is that just like recovered alcoholics, growing and empowering Asafo find the old hang outs and people boring and a waste of time. Going to church or hanging out at the bar or club with the gang at the game have less and less appeal and will be replaced by new acquaintances and activities that are about abibifahodie and justice.

Know that when one is living on purpose Oludumare and our Abosom/Nananom brings others also on purpose to our lives to work together for abibifahodie. The illusion of loneliness is just that -- an illusion. New people who are healthy and about healing and fighting this war appear in your life.

All that is not to say we should abandon those we love. When we are clear and have a safe haven for your loves ones to escape to, by all means we must go back for them it they will come. Unfortunately most are not interested and suffer from Stockholm syndrome/reverse drapetomania. However remember the famous Harriet Tubman quote where she said she brought a lot of our people to freedom and could have brought a lot more had they known they were enslaved.

Keep on keeping on.

Abibifahodie.

meda ase @Agya Yaw,

you have made a logical argument that i agree with. that lets me know it will not work on other people that do not think of themselves as Kmtyw. i think i will need something illogical like turn the other cheek or something.

i'm planning on reading Douglas' autobiography.

Thanks again,
kwaku

Very well stated Dr. Opare!

Very good lecture. I personally have an issue  with the legal process, Why do I have to ask, pay, and go thru so many ridiculous steps to change my name thru this oppressive government when that was not the case for my ancestors who were enslaved and "branded" with a eureurasiaan name?

I think you answered your own question.  It's the same oppressive system that enslaved our ancestors in the first place.  Dr. Amos Wilson reminds us that the basic relationship has not changed from those times to now.

Right, but what I'm saying we didn't have to petition, pay, post notice and so forth then to be labeled our eureurasiaan names, so we shouldn't go through that process now when rightfully changing our names back to Kmtyw

I understand.  But unfortunately we are in this situation.  I would say if that is a goal of yours then do it that way as a matter of strategy over policy and be done with it.  It's only legal in the sense of being part of this illegal system. Are you headed in that direction?
