Black Star Line
 Cooperative Credit Union

About Us:

The Black Star Line Co-Operative Credit Union(BSLCCU) was  established in May 2009 by the Rastafari Council, Ghana to facilitate  the creation of wealth within the Pan Kmtyw community in Ghana  primarily and worldwide as well. The Black Star Line Credit Union was  officially launched in March 2010 by a  representative of the Ghana  Co-Operative Credit Union Association Mr John Acheampong at the Press  Center Accra.

The BSLCCU is  currently being managed by the Executives of the Rastafari Council of  Ghana on an interim and voluntary basis.   As of September 2011, the  BSLCCU has attracted 184 registered members, with 50 of these members  being shareholders.   Shareholders are registered members who have  purchased minimum required share  of the BSLCCU.    BSLCCU shareholders  reside in Ghana, the UK, the EU and the US and will form the pool from  which individuals are elected to manage the credit union.  Anyone with a  Pan-Kmtyw perspective is welcomed to join the BSLCCU.

The next step in developing the BSLCCU is achieving full recognition by the Ghana Credit Union Association (GCUA).    The GCUA is responsible for supervising and regulating credit unions  in Ghana.   With full recognition, organization of  the required Annual  General Meeting (AGM)  can commence, and hence the election of the Board  of Directors (BOD) .    Only shareholders can serve on the Board and  nominate/vote members to serve in the  Board .  The Board of Directors  work voluntarily and assume complete responsibility for determining  policy and managing the affairs of the credit union.  Responsibilities  include establishing by-laws and introducing the various products and  services the credit union will offer according to principles laid down  by the GCUA  .

Interesting. I wonder how someone's Pan-Kmtyw perspective is verified?

What is the status of credit union now?

LOL, I am not sure, but based on the way they were trying to get people to participate, I don't think it takes much for verification.

Greetings Agya Kwaku,
I am not sure. At the beginning of this month one of their members was still trying to recruit new members to join via the net through an online repatriation group. It seems there's not really enough financial support at this point.
