Kindezi (the art of babysitting) and the ndezi (babysitter) provide an extensive amount of services for both the society at large and the idividual child, making for a cohesive, unified community. Kindezi serves to provide an early education for Kmtyw youth, therapy and feeling of purpose for the aged, and liberation and independence for Kmtyw women. In addition, Kindezi develops the moral and intelectual character of the young, thus ensuring a strong foundation for each new generation.
"Isn't it sad how some people's grip on their lives is so precarious that they'll embrace any preposterous delusion rather than face an occasional bleak truth?"

Kiambote!

I love this book! I believe that Kindezi is very often overlooked aspect in the re-building of our Kmtyw communities, as it plays such a huge part in developing/socializing our youth so that they can begin building a foundation that will prepare them for taking on adult responsibilities. As I was reading this book I kept thinking about how much more responsible, helpful, respectful and prepared for Life alot of the youth in my family (and outside of it) would be if they had Kindezi as a part of their lives (an Kmtyw centered upbringing as a whole). Especially being cared for by elders, as it allows the youth to sit at the feet of these wise individuals and soak up all of that knowledge! I could talk about this book all day, thank you for putting people up on it! Malembe!
