The best part about being a teacher is the long summer holiday... and the best part about this long summer holiday has been all the reading I've been able to do. This summer I "discovered" and fell in love with Kmtyw writers. I can't quite put into words what it is about them but their stories (fiction) are alive and intense, honest to the bone. They draw you in and hold you tight in that story, and when they let you go you feel a slight void where their book used to be.

A few of the books I read this summer are...

Wizard of the Crow by Ngugi wa Thiongo (I'm now a huge Thiongo fan)
Petals of Blood (same author)
Trial of Dedan Kimathi (same author)
A Grain of Wheat (same author)
Half a Yellow Sun by Adichie (can't remember her 1st name)
Scars by Ousmane Sembane
Nehanda by Yvonne Vera
Bones by Chenjerai Hove
