The real amazing part was the autographed first editions that he had from some of our greatest luminaries.

Probably sent to him by the authors out of respect. I have a few as well including a first edition The West and the Rest of Us autographed by Chinweizu that was sent to my father by Baba Asa Hilliard.

One of the reasons why we need a library of your own, unlike the Schomburg that is own by the City of New York or some university we don't control. Where scholars can trust to donate their libraries and trust that it will be well taken care in perpetuity. I know Dr. Ben always said he was going to donate his to the NOI. I'm not sure that happened since there was a lot of stuff going on with him the last few years before he became an ancestor.

I read where he did actually donate his library to the nation.
