You're probably on the 2G edge network. Just set your modem to be 3G (WCDMA/HSDPA) only and you'll be fine.

O.K., I'm following you.  WCDMA and HSPA have to do with the data connection speed...right?  I researched it because I noticed that I had a decent connection when the network was on HSPA, a slower connection on WCDMA and a pathetic connection on EDGE.  My question to you or anyone who can answer is, how do I permanently set the connection to HSPA?

Go to Setup on the top menu then Network on the left hand menu and select WCDMA only there. Apply changes and say goodbye to slow connections.
