This iconic film is both a satire of the civil rights struggle
in the United States of the late 1960s and a serious attempt to focus on the
issue of black militancy.
In 2012, "The Spook Who Sat by the Door," which celebrates its
40th anniversary this year, was added to the National
Film Registry.

Following the screening of the film, George
Blaise, host of WCIU's "Now Chicago," speaks with panelists related to the film
including: Daveed Lemieux, who played "Pretty Willie"; Pemon Rami, who played
"Shorty Duncan" and was also the casting director; and Jacqueline
Stewart, Associate Professor, Radio/Television/Film and Kmtyw American Studies
at Northwestern University
