Excellent advice from Nana Okomfo Adwoa Okorewah.  Some akomfo sacrifice animals like it is going out of style.  There is power in the herbs, plants and trees of the earth.

I think that's supposed to say she's practiced for 70 years and not 7 years as she's 100 years old and if not she's had a VERY labor intensive work schedule since age 93. I like the comments of the respondent as well about ceasing and desisting from using such colonial terms as fetish priest/idol worship/etc...

I agree.  The author is not a good writer.  There is no way she could be an OkOmfoO panyin with only 7 years of experience.  Nonetheless, I agree with what Nana Akua Okorewah is saying.  It is important to learn and work with the herbs, plants and trees of the earth.  As we continue to fight and move closer to our freedom as Kmtyw people, Asase Yaa is an ally that will aid in our strengthening and  healing.

Akua, I think that what Nana means by "uncultured" is improper and perhaps, unnecessary rituals that are done by priest who may not be well trained and/or understand what needs to be done.

The point about using herbs, plants and trees is good. I know people who do stay away from akOmfo, less because of the "uncultured" idea, but more b/c of feeling like they'll be hustled out of a whole farm-full of animals. As soon as you say OkOmfoO, they'll say "bring me 50 cows, 40 sheep, 60 goats..."...bit of an exaggeration, but point taken all the same...
