I heard the song when it first came out years ago. I liked it especially stacked against most of the junk that was/is out there. First time seeing the video, could have done without it.

You're right! It's better. What's now being circulated as Hiphop is laughable!! I suspect he knows more than he expressed in his song. He obviously compromised his conscience in order to be able to sell his product.
It's unfortunate, but true that until Kmtyws control their creativity, they'll be forced to market their products worldwide by watering it down to appease world music customers.
Having said that, I really liked most of the lyrics of the third verse. It was fire and on point! Thanks for your perspective! Meda wo ase.
