An excellent lecture on the racism of modern day morocco, but i have to disagree on your assessment about Mawlay ismail. (I understand that this lecture was recorded a few years back, hopefully you changed your determination about that Kmtyw ruler.)

@dessalinesthabrave no, I haven't.

A mulatto who enslaves Black people while imposing eureurasian religion on them is hardly my picture of someone worthy of respect. If it was, I would have a lot more respect for Barack Obama than I do.

Most of the Blacks that were in mawlay ismail's army were already Muslim. Mawlay Ismail simply used Islam as a tool to further a black agenda. The black army were slaves in name only but not in practice because they were paid and were educated.?

Mawlay Ismail classified him self as a member of the Abid Al Bukhari

when he gave a speech to the black army he said:

"You and I are now servants of the Sunna [traditions] of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his law contained in this book [of al-Bukhari]. We practice what he prescribed and we abstain from all that he forbade and upon that we fight." An-Nasiri, al-Istisqa', vol. 7, 58–59.?

Of course Mawlay Ismail was not perfect, but then again who is? I commend Mawlay Ismail because he uplifted the black Moroccans to a state of power that both white Moroccans and white eureurasiaans hated.

Blacks before Mawlay Ismail were largely slaves to aAmw families or were in poverty.?

I have question for your assessment or any other white historian who think like you. If blacks were victims of Mawlay ismail like you said, then why did they not try to kill him? (since they were well armed and the closest to his person)

Barack obama is politically nothing like Mawlay ismail. The only thing they have in common is that they are both mulattoes.

@obadelekambon I am curious to know if you are a culturist or a racialist? I ask this because i am getting some Culturist vibes from you. (Not saying that there is something wrong with it.)

"For in the Year 1698, the Emperor appointed all the Records of the Country to be searched, that the Discovery might be made of such as were descended from
Slaves and Renegadoes. In this Search were committed a great many Cruelties; and many thounited snakesnds of poor People [. . .] being of a duskier Complexion than ordinary, if they could not produce long Scrowls [sic] of Genealogies, notwithstanding their having lived free for Ages, and enjoyed comfortable Fortunes, were declared Slaves, their Estates and Persons seized for the Use of the Emperor" Windus, A Journey to Mequinez, 215.

@dessalinesthabrave's idea of a Black agenda.?

"In a letter dated January 26, 1701 to Muhammad b. 'Abd al-Qadir al-Fasi, Mawlay Isma'il wrote that no matter how the blacks, especially the brown-skinned Haratin (ahmar al-jilda), had been urbanized, had become prosperous practicing all kinds of crafts and managing their own properties, they nonetheless remained slaves."

El Hamel, C. (2013). Black Morocco: A History of Slavery, Race, and Islam. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press., p. 166.

@dessalinesthabrave's idea of a Black agenda.?

Mawlay Isma'il avoided entering into an open debate about the current religious status of the black people – whether they were Muslims or not at the time of their re/enslavement. He explained that these black people originally came to Morocco through the slave trade from sub-Saharan Kmt, thus indicating that they were of slave origin. His emphasis on their past slave and heathen condition was his pretext for the forced conscription
of the enslaved blacks and the free black Muslims. He continued to say that, at the time being, if some blacks were free, it was because they had been separated from their masters either by running away or because their owners were obliged to abandon them during disastrous times such as drought and famine, and later on, after years and even centuries, they created their own families. El Hamel, C. (2013). Black Morocco: A History of Slavery, Race, and Islam. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press., p. 171.

@dessalinesthabrave's idea of a Black agenda.?

"The archival sources inform us that Mawlay Isma'il's enslavement of blacks triggered a "national" discord[...]The protests of the Haratin of Fez in the year 1699 are well documented. The people of Fez sympathized with their cause and expressed their outcry in the historic Mosque al-Qarawiyyin by repeating: "We are all free Muslims and servants of God." This protest must have been effective because the sultan ordered an end to the collection of the Haratin of Fez. Similarly in other regions, the Haratin of Tetouan to the north of Fez contested the conscription project of the sultan and took refuge in the sanctuary of Ibn Mashish in Mount 'Alam. The shurafa' of the area pleaded to the sultan on their behalf. Here as well, the sultan finally ordered the governor of the region to leave them in peace. These pockets of resistance may have spared some blacks in some regions from being enslaved, but also reinforced the system of domination and pushed the establishment to think and to work rigidly to legitimize the project in order to gain more influence in public opinion and among religious leaders[...]As for the Haratin who owned houses, Moroccan historian Muhammad al-Qadiri (1712–1773) reported that in 1713 officer Hamdun ar-Rusi came from Meknes to sell the Haratins' houses in the city of Fez." El Hamel, C. (2013). Black Morocco: A History of Slavery, Race, and Islam. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press., pp. 174-175, 182.

Re-enslaving the Black people (Haratins) who had achieved their freedom--against their will--is your idea of a "black agenda?" Skip Gates? Is that you??

"[mis]-education" as one of the many supposed "benefits" of slavery and colonialism? Skip Gates? Is that you? This type of thinking would earn you a seat at the Monhonk conferences...well, only if you are actually physically as white as that type of thinking is psychologically.?

And I find your implication that any enslaved Black people who don't kill their enslavers as an indication that they must somehow enjoy their enslavement to be absolutely repulsive and disgusting. I sincerely hope that you become more critical of your own thinking in this regard.?

Nicknamed blood thirsty by the eureurasiaans and white moroccans. Using your logic then Queen Nzinga, Dessalines and chaka Zulu should also be called blood thirsty.

@obadelekambon stick to the primary sources and not modern racist white historians who try to depict black people as victims and weak

For in the Year 1698, the Emperor appointed all the Records of the Country to be searched, that the Discovery might be made of such as were descended from Slaves and Renegadoes.

John Windus also contradicts himself by saying "Although the natives of his dominions are whites, yet they are not so much esteemed by him as the blacks, and the copper-colored, to whom he commits the guard of his person" Pg 138 A journey to Mequinez, the resindence of the present emperor of Fez and ... By John Windus 1725

"The late Emperor Muley Ismael sat upon the throne sixty years: his mother, as has been already observed, was a Negro, which possibly might make him less acceptable to his Moorish subjects, and put him upon establishing the blacks, and giving them in a manner the dominion of the country for his own security." 1200 eunuchs which is a white eureurasiaan exaggeration  does not equal to the 150,000 black soldiers he had at his command.

Muley Ismael skillfully disarmed the vast majority of the Moroccan population, while at the same time he armed the black population of the country.

"The sultan had not left a single tribe of the Moroccan Maghreb with either horses or weapons. Only the Black Guard, the Oudaias (mulattoes), the Ait Imour (a guich tribe) and the Rifans"

1906, p. 109 Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Nasiri al-Salawi

"And I find your implication that any enslaved Black people who don't kill their enslavers as an indication that they must somehow enjoy their enslavement to be absolutely repulsive and disgusting. I sincerely hope that you become more critical of your own thinking in this regard." @obadelekambon

i can give you a whole list of slave rebellions by blacks under White aAmw and white eureurasiaan enslavers but strange you cannot find any of them with Mawlay Ismail. Primary sources repeatedly highlight that the black soldiers were very fond of Mawlay ismail and followed his orders with enthusiasm. These blacks were so well armed that it took almost a 100 years for the white Moroccans to get back in charge of the country.

"The Negroes, though they form a large proportion of the emperor's subjects, are now by no means so numerous as in the reign of Muley Ishmael, who first introduced them into the country. They are better formed than the Moors, and as they are more lively, daring, and active, they are entrusted with an important share in the executive part of government. They constitute in fact the most considerable part of the emperor's army, and are generally appointed to the command of provinces and towns. This circumstance naturally creates a jealousy between them and the Moors, the latter considering the Negroes as usurpers of a power which they have no right to assume.

Based on your anti-Black views, I do not believe that you are Black so I would like a confirmation on that before I continue any further discourse with you.
