How was your experience in Ghana. I never got your take on things in the cornfields of Simpa.

There are some good folks in Simpa. There was a local vegan spot called Summer Yard that we would order from now and then. While there I was able to do some of my best teaching and to write a little bit. My colleagues and students were some of the best folks that I've had the pleasure to work with. However on the whole, that life was far slower than what we were used to. I would sometimes exercise by chasing goats (yes, it was that slow). I never caught any incidentally. We also had some adventures there too: a three month drought, the daily cockroach wars, exiling geckos to the hinterland, etc. The drought crashed our plans of raising a garden, which is tale worth telling.

We did get around to Cape Coast, Accra, and Kumasi. We never stayed in Cape Coast too long (and I didn't regret that). Kumasi was my favorite place though. The brief exposure that I got to the local cultural institutions was highly stimulating. Accra was okay. The economic stratification there was a stark reminder of why we need to see economic development from our own paradigm, rather than from that of global capitalism.

Overall, GH was cool. We'll be back one day. In fact I may return to do some more teaching. I also want to visit the Eastern Region. Before then though, I hope to visit Senegal, Tanzania, and a couple of spots on this side of the Atlantic.
